Does anyone know when it is this year? Is it on the first Sunday of term (7th Sept)?

Socs Fayre is Sunday September 30th, the second Sunday in Freshers' Week, in the entire Union.

In exchange for this valuable information you are morally obliged to come and visit me on the Charities Campaign stand.

But Fayre is so very oldschool.

As a graduate who is now studying at Dundee, can I come to your freshers' fair and get some lovely free stuff from the banks etc?

I'm pretty sure you can, particularly if you have a matric card.

Of course - we have a reciprocal agreement with Dundee. And besides, we didn't pay for it...

Shamefully, I have spent much more time in Dundee union than St Andrews, but with good reason: there is more space round the pool tables! I feel the reciprocal agreement has been beneficial to the life of this student, so thank you to whomever organised that. I should go to their fayre (lovely spelling that) and get one of these oh-so-desirable Fat Sams gift bags before the good people of St A's, just to be ahead of fashion for once.

(I had best not mention I have been going there all summer on an expired matriculation card.)

I thought there was something weird about no reciprocal stuff on freshers' week (it may be no guests, not sure).

Anyhoo... Dundee has a bank, a fake Spar and a swimming pool in its union - why the hell did no-one tell me this before? I'd recommend this to anyone who fancies a trip over.

If there's anything like that, I doubt it'd apply during the day - particularly at the Societies' Fair, which is so busy for everyone inside that there wouldn't even be anyone with the time to check matric cards.

The Dundee Union is ace.

I'm a life member, but my card, like the rest of my wallet is AWOL. Will I need to be signed in as a guest for the ceilidh on the last night of pre-sesh? I can't get in to St Andrews during the week when the office would be open to get myself a new card.

Presumably - the card is the only means the door staff have of identifying someone.

I believe they are not permitting guests to be signed-in during "Orientation Week".

In that case, I'd say you have two options. First, you could arrange to get a new pass in advance, without actually being there: it would be an unusual request, but you could post a photograph to a friend in town, and have them arrange for a new card for you, then met you outside to give it to you. Secondly, you could get someone on the SAEC to give you an 'exec' signin - they should allow those, I'd have thought, but again you'd want to check first.

The rationale being that the union can't even cope with the numbers of freshers if they all came on one night, let alone our returning students.

To go some way to ease the pressure, no sign-ins, even exec, are allowed. I think the Union will honour reciprocal agreements though.
