The BBC recon they have made a huge discovery here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7175730.stm

but actually visiting the website of the university:

http://www.iiuedu.ie/welcome.html

would be enough to show any normal person that its a bogus educational institution. The first two paragraphs both contain grammatical errors and there is no such word in the English (UK at least) language as transnational. The menu on the left looks like it was made by a first time designer and a quick google shows that the Baron isn't real.

Way to go investigative journalism. :S

At least the Rochville University make their website look the part.

"There is only ever one truth. Things are always black or white, there's no such thing as a shade of grey. If you think that something is a shade of grey it simply means that you don't fully understand the situation. The truth is narrow and the path of the pursuit of truth is similarly narrow."

Not to mention the fact that our very own university has a transnational history research unit:

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/history/res ... ional.html

And that it runs a module, FM5101, in Transnational Cinema and Narrative Convention:

http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/filmstudies ... odules.php

And that there are a further 452 references to the word 'transnational' on the university's website:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3 ... nsnational

Or perhaps St Andrews is bogus too?

Why does their Lord High Chief Executive Vice President or whatever he's called never smile?

My favourite bit is:

A BBC London reporter then confronted Professor Wooller:

Reporter: You said the whole thing is dodgy.

Mr Wooller: It is dodgy!

Reporter: Oh so you admit it's dodgy?

Mr Wooller: Of course it's dodgy.

That is the high quality reporting you pay your license fee for.

Thats the first time I have ever seen the word used.

Transnational is a word. Recon, however, is an abbreviation. Reckon's a word though.

Ye-es. Anyway, back to the interesting part of the discussion, what you have to remember is that this 'university' wasn't targeting people in English-speaking countries, so it's unlikely that their audience would have noticed anything. Also, if you'd watched the full report on the news, you'd have seen that it was scrupulously researched; the only way they got that confession out of the man with the paid-for peerage (paid for to someone other than the Labour Party, I mean) was by firstly having an undercover journalist posing as a potential business partner get him to admit the dodginess of the proposition on tape.

It seems fairly clear to me that these people are perpetrating a fraud, and instead of the government making noises about shutting the 'university' down, they should be arresting the blighters who run it.

Interesting is in the eye of the beholder, Bean, and you are not the ultimate arbiter of it. Try to keep that in mind.

Someone beat me to it but there is, in fact, such a word as 'transnational'. It's actually a very important part of the globalisation-dominated world in which we live.

I guess that makes you another clueless medic.

"IIU" splashed out on the caps and gowns. They're from Ede & Ravenscroft, and the Irish International University is still listed on their web-site as using their graduation services...

I've always thought it, over years and years of seeing you post on the Sinner, but finally, you have proven yourself to be a complete dumbass in spectacular fashion.

Thank you.
