Buying a new laptop, don't really want to spend more than £450 but i'm useless with computers so was wondering if anyone could help me..what's the best available for that price?

Your best bet is probably to find a new-term special deal - all the big retailers and manufacturers will be doing them. I'm not sure about the specifics, but Mesh usually makes pretty good machines, and they're a UK company, too.
