STAR radio specials

Postby www.standrewsradio.com on Sat Dec 13, 2008 1:17 pm

This Sunday 14th December, Radio 2 DJ (and now our DJ) Sally Rodgers presents a STAR Special 2-hour Christmas edition of 'A Letter from Saint Andrews'.

Featuring esteemed poet Don Paterson (OBE, VST, MAX MSP) reading his Forward Prize winning poem 'Love Poem For Natalie 'Tujsa' Beridze' and selecting some of his favourite music.

Plus more poetry chat, guests and readings, the very best in experimental electronica, baroque-folk, Italo disco, dubstep, psychadelic soul, plainsong, crumhorn and a smattering of well placed Christmas tracks.

You should listen.

This Sunday the 14th of December, 9PM to 11PM

Explain Yourself" Special
15th December, 8pm- 9pm, http://www.standrewsradio.com

Just what is it that everyone DOES at this university?

"Explain Yourself!" is the new interview programme that aims to answer that question. We'll explore the secret lives of everyone from postgrads to professors, in fields from maths to metaphysics. "Research" might
sound like the most boring word ever, but "Explain Yourself!" is premised on the idea that if someone is doing research, there must be SOMETHING interesting about it.

With engaging, in-depth interviews and an unrepentant curiosity in the face of even the greatest obscurity, we find that interesting thing and drag it, thrashing and
wailing, into the light: the light of radio.

FIRST EPISODE of "Explain Yourself!": PhD students tell us about their immortal eyeball collections, shepherds playing ice hockey, and "revolutionary crazies" (technical term). Plus, a classicist struggles to learn some maths, and we learn which St Andrews professor who built his own flying machine has a secret collection of stuffed animals and seashells named after him.

Don't you mean transparent eyeball? Sounds interesting either way.
