Shooting Stars is back - what next?

Postby RandomMusings on Mon Dec 22, 2008 9:36 pm

Ok, so I'm a little bored at home and hence posting lots on the Sinner.....

However, I've just seen that Shooting Stars with Vic & Bob is back for at least one new episode on 30/12/08 and this got me thinking. What with Gladiators returning last year, and Krypton Factor returning next year, which other classic tv shows (particularly gameshows) would people like to see coming back for new series.

I vote The Crystal Maze (but ONLY with Richard O'Brien)
...and as the red red robin of time goes bob bob bobbin under the snowplough of eternity.... I see it's time to end

I vote for Noel's House Party.
But, ONLY, if Mr Blobby is heavily involved, and Noel stops this Deal or No Deal nonsense he's got going on.

As far as gameshows go, Wheel of Fortune on ITV was good in it's day ^_^
But then again, I could just be saying that to annoy people...

Definitely, although the sequel to the Vicar of Dibley should be called the Bishop of Oxford, in light of recent developments.

Well, I know Sky bought over the rights for Blake's 7...
I can only hope and pray for a new version of the series because I am am a "filthy nerd", and have been to sci-fi conventions and stuff.
...

I still haven't seen the new Shooting Stars or Gladiators. So, i fail. =(
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

Bring back creativity, or was that so overrated broadcasters had to pillage the graves of once-great shows to find new ideas? Are they trying to tell us that no-one is coming up with good scripts or ideas any more? Mind you we've had Bonekickers, which was badly named and pretty awful, then survivors, which wasn't very well-thought out and too short.

As for the Vicar of Dibley, was never a fan, and the way things are going she'll be disestablished before they can get her back on our screens.

Survivors was not a new idea, it was a remake of the 70s series.

In a word. Yes.
Think about it... Some of the most popular shows these days are remakes/continuations of old stuff; I cite Doctor Who as an example. And then we've got the soaps which have survived for years, but we don't talk about those.

I guess I don't really care. I never watch the Tellybox anyway, but I suppose that's because all the new stuff is absolute gash. And I'm glad I don't have anything that I would watch regularly... Just means I'd have to buy a TV liscence. =P

I think the problem is unwillingness to fund anything that has the potential to suck has meant programs with a "ready-made" audience more frequently get the green light. Talk about a loss of risk-taking among these guys...maybe they're hoping the same tired old format will find them another cash cow like Matt Lucas.

I vote for Black Books too - watched the box set of all three seasons over the last couple of weeks and forgotten how good it could be.

I feel there may be a lot of ''corpsing'' on stage if Father Ted were to return with the original cast......... o.o

This whole thing about the standard of TV being in decline. It is rubbish, right? I mean, is it just my imagination or are there actually quite a few decent comedy shows about right now? I mean, Peep Show might not be quite as good as Black Books or Father Ted, but it's not far off. American dramas - show me a better TV show than the Wire and, well, I'll just have to sit down and watch it to see for myself. If you have more channels then you get more dross, the amount of good stuff will stay just about constant.

Black Books really is the shit though. Seriously, the last 15-20 years have been a golden age for comedy. I'm being serious here.

I say bring back Blockbusters (the Bob Holness show, not the video rental chainstore)

Black Books? Pfft! The Green Wing was superior in every way.

As for those wishing for the revival of Mr Blobby... I hope you don't plan on breeding.

I really liked Spoons. Quite odd comedy - sort of on a par with Big Train.

I'm breathless and giddy from laughing so hard. I forgot just how excellent Shooting Stars was.

Lol...lol indeed.
