Laptop Recycling

Postby Cinema on Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:52 pm

Hi All,

I recently had a laptop die, so I've salvaged the parts (putting the optical drive and hard drive in external enclosures. Also saved the ram, which I guess I'll sell - check the trading message board!), but I still have the rest of it. What does one do with the old dead chunk? A sticker on it clearly states something to the effect of: has mercury in it, do not throw in garbage.

Are there any laptop recycling facilities around here?

Cheers!

Ask IT Services. The University has to recycle all of their e-waste because of the WEEE Directive (that's the real acronym, no joke) & it may cost them no more to add the remnants of a laptop to their next shipment to China, so they may well take it off you for free.

Classic Computers in Dundee. They'll dispose of it safely, and you might even get a few bob for it. They're at the bottom of the Hilltown.
