In no particular order:
1. Thornbridge Halcyon 2009
2. Russian River Pliny the Elder (am dying to try the younger)
3. Westmalle Tripel
4. Bear Republic Racer 5
5. Weihenstephaner Vitus

Bit of a hop fan. Currently nursing a Smuttynose Finestkind - let beersofeurope be your friend.

Is doom bar not Cornish?

You are correct. Please forgive me, I was sampling some of no #2 on my list during the time of writing that first post. I find myself tending towards the lighter session beers or the blondes these days, I've never been attracted to beers that are too hoppy (hoppish, hop-full?). Flavour is a balance of tastes imho, not to be too dominated by one factor. That's just my opinion though, everyone has different tastes.

bdw: Pliny the Younger is absolutely superb. I was at Russian River for the Pliny day this year. Epic. Shame they wouldn't let me have a growler of it even though I was the extra-continental Brewdog fanboy.

I don't think I could pick a top 5 beers.

Hürlimann Samichlaus
Brewdog Tokyo*
FFF Dark Lord (2009 bottle)
FFF Dreadnaught (keg)
Brewdog Chaos Theory
Fullers London Pride (cask)
Taylors Landlord (cask)
Harviestoun Old Engine Oil (bottled or cask)
Stone Russian Imperial Stout
Duvel Moortgat Duvel
Flying Dog Gonzo Porter
Russian River Pliny Old And Young
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
Mikkeller/Brewdog Devine Rebel Mortlach Cask Aged Barley Wine (possibly the best beer I've ever tasted)
Traquair House Ale

All superb beers in their own way off my head, but try picking 5 favs from even that? Hard.
