Golf in St Andrews

Is Golf in St Andrews an expensive sport? Are there any special conditions available for students? How much per annum is the membership in one of the clubs?

according to the prospectus students get quite a good deal...i think about £100 pa

Students pay the same as town residents (£103 for 2000-01) though there is a cheaper option of £84 though this doesn't include play on the Old Course. You also have to enter a ballot for a chance to play the Old Course plus you need a handicap certificate of no more than 24 for men or 36 for women. I think you also have to be a member of a golf club though I'm not sure if this applys to local residents. There are no handicap requirements for any of the other 18 hole courses. Hope this helps.
