Baby Apple

Postby Mr Comedy on Sat May 15, 2004 6:52 pm

Gywneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have just given birth to a baby called Apple. I think that is a really silly name.
Three questions:
- Do you think it is a silly name?
- What silly name would you give your child?
- Can you think of any amusing apple-related puns?

Yes

I think Fionnlagh is strange enough.

Sadly, no. My punning skills are somewhat limited. If I'd been Mr Martin I'd be tempted to name any future brother to Apple, Aston, however

I actually thought this had to be a joke.
But it is not. (Although, someone in my room made a joke that at least she's the apple of her mother's eye. Ouch)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the silliest name I could possibly give to any daughter of mine is 'Arabica'. Just think about that for a second.

You could feasibly call your son Haas, David..

I could, but I'd be wary of unfavourable comparissons with his father.

Her/His Granny Smith must be delighted. Let's hope the middle name's not Mac.

She's a girl- Apple Blythe Alison Martin.

I think Apple is a bit silly but Blythe is ok.

Kinda relevant to the whole food-name thing: my Great Aunt was called Hazel Nutt.

My boyfriend seems to have a preference for the names "Matthias" (in which the h is pronounced) and "Mattameo." I think he tells people this for shock value, because the names are atrocious!

I much prefered Nickels computer geek joke...
It actually made me laugh quite a bit.
I need to get out more.

Sounds like a character from Watership Down.

I sense jokes throughout her whole life about "Cox".

Poor girl. How do you suppose these people come up with these ideas? I mean, of all things to call your kid, what brought them to "Apple"? Why not Coconut, or Peppermint, or Echinacea, or Chinchilla? They are no less ridiculous as far as I can see. If you didn't know what they really were, you could easily be forgiven for thinking they were unusual names. Sigh, that poor girl is going to have to live with that name all her life. It just isn't fair. Don't these parents think about how it'll be for their kids? It's one thing giving a strange cute name to a new born baby, but remember, that baby's going to grow up, and it won't be so cute when they are an adult, it'll just be silly. You can almost forgive the name Apple when it's a tiny, dimpled baby, but do you think it'll be quite so endearing when it's an adult, or even an old lady? Having said that, my (female) cousin's middle name is "Velvet". Can you imagine that being her 1st name?
