Hello all,
Just thought I'd add some clairity here. The debate, as per both the link up and the term card (which, I do admit was a bit vague, sorry about that) is on nuclear weapons.
Weapons.
Done. I think this debate is particularly pertinient seeing as the UK is looking into whether or not to update its Trident system, and I think a lot of people are interested in what this means for UK security, the NPT, and everything that comes with it. I think a power debate is also a good idea, however, (and this is only my personal opinion, and..well, I'll get to that in a second) I also believe that a lot of the people who believe in nuclear power already know quite a lot about it, and those who don't aren't particularly intersted in learning more (a lot of them don't seem to care where their power comes from, even if maybe they should, that might not compel them to come to a debate on the topic). HOWEVER, I also believe there's a very viable debate there as well, I just think that the weapons debate is quite timely at the moment (that's a bit repetitive). So. Recap:
The debate is on weapons.
I like this fact.
I also think a power debate would be good.
I think the weapons debate is better for now, and so support the BoT's decision to go weapons.
I'm excited for this term of debates, I think it looks quite good. My particular favourites are the Irish debate (well, maybe I just like the Irish) and Inter-Res.
Yours truly,
Jess
