I hope some of the people who go to the AGM will be taking note and asking the candidates for Serjeant-at-Arms what they make of some of these ideas.

I WILL be going to the AGM but I have to work so will not be there for the first hour or so. I hope to be able to ask one or two pointed questions.
I ask for serious requests from those who cannot make it to the AGM due to geographic limitations and work.

As it stands, alumni are sometimes even invited back to speak on debates they know things about purely by accident, such as when Liz Fletcher, a family lawyer, expressed her dismay that her invitation to a debate about the family was issued not because of her job, but because she was a former Convenor.

I don't remember that happening to Miss Fletcher (though it may well have done), but it certainly did occur to Jody Beveridge, though I don't think she was that offended, and the remark was made largely in jest.

Aye, that's right - Jody Dunn, nee Beveridge, not Liz Fletcher. And I realise she was joking, but it's still a valid enough point.

I could do a great job with that.... I'd be perfect.
This is turning into a good thread.

Thank you so much for these, David - written without a trace of irony, it would seem. After a hard day's work I genuinely burst out laughing and felt much better.

Ah, yes, Ms Dunn, nee Beveridge, how nice it is to see someone else remember her so well and so fondly.

It was a good speech. In a surprisingly good debate, actually - Dr Parry's fake memo from the Principal's office put the icing on the cake.

Was this the licensing parents debate? I spoke in that too.

That's the one - Jody Dunn was there as a family lawyer, if you recall. This was before the Lib Dem debacle...

I do recall, yes, I just said I spoke in it!

I wasn't sure if she'd spoken in another one qua family lawyer because in that one she spoke qua former convenor as you already said. Alistair Pugh spoke in it too, as I recall, and of course Philip Parry. I seem to remember it being rather good.

and if you ever decided to do something about the co-operative movement or the ethics of major retailers like Tesco, I'd be perfect.

I'm a bastard, so I'd happily speak in Opposition as well.

Not quite sure which bit you're asking about, I'm afraid, but I'd be happy to help out if you could clarify.
