The Pro-Am

Postby mattina on Thu Oct 04, 2007 7:31 am

The Pro-Am will be held this year in St Andrews and is being run by members of our society on behalf of the SSDC (Scottish Students Debating Council) of which Rachael is chair this year.

It is being held on the 20th and 21st of October (rounds on the Saturday and workshops, etc on the Sunday).

I encourge people, both those new to debating (ams) and those with experience (pros,) to attend. It was alot of fun last year and I personally feel that I learned quite a bit.

If you wish to attend, please email me as soon as possible at lem55. If you are unsure and would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to email me as well.

Thanks!

Details Please

Postby Dickie on Thu Oct 04, 2007 3:44 pm

What format will Sat take?
Where will things be?
What is the time table?

I understand that this is a work in progress. So most details will not be known but is there a vague scetch of a plan.

The vague nature isn't on purpose and I will be posting details as soon as they are made available to me. The format and timetable will be forthcoming.

I wanted to put the date out there to know how much interest there was in the competition and make people aware that it will be taking place.

Pro-Am Success

Postby kdc4 on Sun Oct 21, 2007 2:57 pm

The Pro-Am was a major success for St Andrews debaters. This year, pros and ams were selected randomly, with no institutional block, so pros and ams from the same institution were permitted to speak together.

(I apologise for spelling everyone's names incorrectly).

Miles and Madeleine (both St Andreans) topped the 'pro' and 'am' tabs respectively, though they ended up falling short of the final.

The final was contested by:

1st Prop (Vijay and Beth)
2nd Prop (Kenny and Sam)
2nd Opp (Tom and James)

All of whom were from St Andrews.

They were joined by:

1st Opp (Maciej and Karen) from Aberdeen.

To Debate:
'THW: Criminalise Smoking While Pregnant'

A close-fought final resulted in 4-1 decision for Vijay and Beth.

Congratulations to the them on the first (of many, I hope) victories for St Andrews this year.

N.B. As per the training calendar, there is no training session tonight (due to the SSDC conference).

Thanks to Rach for managing it all so efficiently and Chris for his tab magic!

Cheers,
-Doug

This was a great showing by St Andrews - and especially well done to all the ams who did a great job!
Looks like Maidens is going to be a cut-throat competition, and hope for Bogwall is growing!

Well done to all the children. Bogwall should be fun too.

Hello Maddy!

P.S. I do hope the trophies were awarded.
