(6) Hosted by Strathclyde University

Beth, Jess, Connie, and I are through our Mace round as well.

Thanks to everyone for coming to the prep sessions, especially those not in the Mace themselves. You probably had better things to do with your time, but this is the strongest show St Andrews has had in the Mace for ages- and I think it's due, in no small part, to research.

Cheers,

I know I'm being special but could I ask someone to post the full names - I like to keep track during dull 5 mins at work. I am sooo cool.

Mace Final: Information

Postby kdc4 on Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:30 am

Teams in the final:

St Andrews (Grieve and Cochran)
St Andrews (Whitbread and Hawkins)
St Andrews (Conner and Siegel)
Glasgow (Brown and Tait)

Held in Edinburgh March 25, Playfair Library.

It's open to the public, all welcome.
**********************************************

Last night's semi:

Motion: THW: Send Al-Megrahi back to Lybia.

1P Edinburgh (Barney Ross and Pete Webster)
10 St Andrews (Rach and Chris)
2P St Andrews (Connie and Doug)
20 Glasgow (Jonny Hardman and Andy Gray)

Advancing: St Andrews CD (on a 5-0 decision)

Advancing: St Andrews CR (on a 3-2 decision)

Edinburgh came third. Their model assumed that Al-Megrahi would continue serving his sentence in Lybia, which I think put the St Andrews teams off-balance a bit. I was fairly confident that Connie and I were heading out in favour of the top half. This may be because my speech was very untidy (though, apparently, it was clear after Connie re-explained my arguments).

I thought the prop was going to be that he should be released, which rendered a lot of my planned arguments rather useless. The debate itself was rather untidy.

Cheers,

2 teams last year in the final...3 this year...if it keeps going like this St Andrews could win the thing in 2009!

Well done kids - nice show and good luck in the final.
