Bogwall

Postby mattina on Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:43 pm

Right, for those who don't know what Bogwall is, it's a competition for Fresher's only! It's a great first tourament to do since you'll be debating against other new speakers. I really encourage everyone to come along.

Date: 17th November

Place: Glasgow

you should be able to return to St Andrews on the day and it promises to be a fantastic tournament!

It's the last weekend of Reading Week and I'll be leaving from St Andrews and leading an expedition from there.

Otherwise, reg should close between 10 and 10:30 which should give people engough time to get there from where ever they may be.

Details to follow but anyone wishing to participate just email me at lem55 and I encourage you to come to training Wednesday

It's Coming Home!

Postby kdc4 on Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:40 am

Congratulations to Kenny Nicoll and Sam Fowles who have brought home the Bogwall trophy to St Andrews, after two years in Durham!

Motions:

THW: Ban domestic flights
THW: Suspend military aid to Pakistan until it holds democratic elections.
THW: Only accept skilled migrants.

Final: THW: Stop trying to prevent nations from acquiring nuclear weapons.

1st Prop: Strathclyde A
1st Opp: GUU C
2nd Prop: St Andrews LUST
2nd Opp: GUU B

Winners: St Andrews over Strathclyde on a
3-2 split.

All of St Andrews five teams performed admirably, many of them falling just short of the break in the final round. Tab to follow.

Thanks all who came out to judge, especially Connie and Chris for co-CAing and tabbing respectively.

Cheers,
-Doug

Victory at Bogwall!

Postby Frank George on Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:43 am

I am proud to report that St Andrews team "Lust" (our teams were named after the seven deadly sins, d'ya see?), comprising of Kenny Nicoll and Samuel Percival Fowles, won the Bogwall final! We had strong showings by our other teams, as the tab will undoubtedly show once posted. Congratulations to all of our new speakers!

Edit: I was beaten to the posting...

Congartulations, one of the more interesting trophies is to return....

If there are seven sins and five teams what do we not indulge in?

I believe Gluttony and Pride were not indulged in. The trophy, however, is still with Durham, who were not there. Hopefully we will get it back soon. Fortunately Doug "just had a spare trophy lying around" from some competition where he "only got eighth place". That will fill in before we get the proper Bogwall trophy back.

Well done children. Interesting motions too. The deadly sins was a stroke of genius long may it continue to be used.

Good to see a strong showing from Strathclyde as well!

Where's the tab?

Plus I have been informed that Edinburgh will be an open this year and with rumours that Dundee will be some kind of IV (boo hiss)that looks like 2 days of open drunken fun in Scotland!

So many people to abuse...so few opens.

Also I just noticed what the GUU have planned...according to BD calendar Ancients this year will be 7 months and 1 day!

The accomodation might get a bit ripe but at least that'll make it good value for food and booze everyday for £50.

Truly a great performance. We not only can claim top honours in the final, but we can prove phenomenal depth within the institution. All of our five teams finished in the top nine- above the median. If we'd had time to run semifinals, we might have made the final an all-St Andrews affair!

Cheers,

Ooh, ooh ooh, can I be offensive too please Jason? I've forgotten how to debate, but I've got considerably ruder.

Ancients

Postby corporationDialectica on Thu Nov 29, 2007 10:32 pm

Just to be aware, the first occurrence of Ancients in the BD calendar is a lie - Ancients will be second weekend in March.
