Co-Option

Postby TC on Thu Nov 15, 2007 12:19 am

Dear All,

The society's Treasurer has resigned. As a result there will be a co-option for a new Treasurer on Wednesday the 21st of November at 5pm in the Committee Room on the top floor of the Union.

All candidates wishing to run for the position must present themselves to the board. They will be expected to make a short speech of no more than 2 minutes and answer questions from the board for 3. Any questions should be emailed to the tprc@st-andrews.ac.uk

All the best,

Tom Cahn,
President of the UDS

Am sorry to hear that.

I hope that the society will find someone who has some fiscal compitance to take over (I am in no way being bitchy, Chris could read the books unlike others I recall).

Best of luck to the BoT in choosing the best person for the job.

NB. First resignation just as reading week finishes, has this happend once or twice before? Or I am just dreaming....

Rules for co-option?

Postby Dickie on Thu Nov 15, 2007 4:42 pm

Just a thought.

Am I correct to think that a Co-option MUST be anounced one week in advance.

Thus, if I am correct then Wednesdays BoT meeting cannot Co-otp!

I hope I am wrong and BoT can fill this vital possition a.s.a.p.

It does. I believe it actually needs to be announced at a meeting of the house, to give due notice - the last time there was a co-option last year, it had to be re-run because of this problem.

It's annoying, as this is a vital position to fill.

And yes, Dickie, right on time.

Dickie and Royce,

The constitution of the UDS says that all I need to do is give 5 days notice for a co-option.

Section VII.2
"The Board shall have the power to co-opt, or elect in the House, members to fill casual vacancies. Such a co-option shall require 5 days notice."

Therefore as far as I can see the Board can hold a co-option on Wednesday as we have given more than 5 days notice via the acceptable methods of communication with the membership.

all the best,

Tom

Sad thing is, it's not so long since everyone got to vote for a co-option, in the House. Perhaps something which ought to return?

Yes, Jamie, I firmly agree with you on that one. Co-options in the house, as it would end the rather insular nature of the last couple of boards.

Quoting RJ Covino from 18:16, 16th Nov 2007
"They said that to win by co-option was wrong..."

What is the rest of that anyway? It's a long time since I heard it. I think one of the *hilarious* new verses took its place...

That *was* a 'hilarious' 'new' verse (some might say 'hil-AR-ious' even)... You can tell because it never scanned properly, e.g. "but it's in the Constitution so you can f*ck off." See? Too many syllables.
