Aberdeen IV/RGU IV

Postby mattina on Mon Feb 04, 2008 11:34 am

Hello!

The Aberdeen IV this year will be held on Saturday February 16th. It's not far and it's generally a smallish competition and lots of fun. I'm willing to send anyone who wants to go speak or judge. I'm hoping to make up 1/2 the tab like St Andrews did a couple of years ago. If you want to go, find a partner and send my an email. Or if you can't find a partner, let me know and I'll do my best to pair you up!

RGU is holding their first ever competition the next day (Sunday the 17th) and not only because they're in SSDC but because it's important for us to show our support because they are a new society, I'd also like to send lots of people. They've been working really hard so it should be good and fun.

Reg for doing both I'm pretty sure is cheaper than just regging for Aberdeen.

As ever, email me lem55

RGU

Postby Frank George on Thu Feb 07, 2008 11:27 am

I shall be going to Aberdeen and speaking with Zoe. She is leaving me for somebody else for RGU, so I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in speaking with me for that competition.

EDIT: Not going to RGU anymore; ignore the above.

To go to Aberdeen on Saturday the 16th, please get the train departing at 8:13 from Leuchars.

Please be at the bus station PROMPTLY at 7:30.

To the couple of you just planning on coming to RGU (also in the city of Aberdeen) or who are going back on the night and returning (silly as you are) please get the 6:58 train from Leuchars arriving in Aberdeen at 8:40 (there is one change).

The next train will be too late.

See everyone at the bus station at 7:30; I'll sort teams and stuff on the train so no fears if you don't have a partner yet. Email lem55 if you have questions

as ever,

Some results

Postby Ewan MacDonald on Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:12 pm

As far as I am aware no formal tabs have been released, but some results from the ‘Granite City Weekend’.

Aberdeen Open

1.) Catwoman and her Kitten (Beth Conner and Ewan MacDonald) 11pts (1st Opp)
2.) Tay Bridge Architects (Doug Cochran and Graeme Foggo) 11pts (2nd Opp)
3.) Edinburgh BD (Barney Ross and Dave Massaro) 10pts (1st Prop)
4.) St Andrews Genesis (Chris Hawkins and Rachel Whitbread) 9pts (2nd Prop)

The final was on something like THW introduce Sharia Law to Britain – and was won by Edinburgh BD. Rachel won the best speaker in the final prizer, and Doug was best speaker on tab.
Preliminary Round motions (approximate wordings):
Rd 1: THW remove the children of undear-age parents
Rd 2: THB that China should be compelled to remove support for Sudan
Rd 3: THW issue life bans to drug cheats in sport
Rd 4: THW castrate Paedophiles

I believe that three St Andrews teams (Rachel and Laura, Beth and Zoe, and Miles and James) broke at RGU, but the final was won by the GUU. I suspect that Doug as CA will post full details anon.
When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.

6 out of the top 8 speakers were St Andrews; that's impressive.

To all who came, I hope you enjoyed the weekend-I know I did!

Quoting from 11:38, 22nd Feb 2008
Could someone please post who was in the St Andrews teams?

Also who are the St Andrews Debaters, full names please (this posting has been better than others).
I would hate not to know who is doing what and for 'IV. to be seen as a little club.

Dickie Douglas (StA's) asks: Who are the St Andrews speekers on the 'IV thing (cannot think of a word which could not be deemed perjorative).

I think the other teams were:

St Andrews Nemesis: Patrick Orendorz and Rafael Heinish (apologies for the spelling)

St A First Contact: James Beadle and Laura Mattina

St A Generations: Sally Young and Joe Casey

I hope that's the rest!

as for the team names, that's what happens you let all the boys take the train together and tell them to amuse themselves by thinking up team names...
