St Andrews Day Debate

Postby lem55 on Tue Dec 02, 2008 12:43 pm

Yesterday some members of the debating society went down to Edinburgh to participate in a day of debating hosted by the Scottish Parliament leading up to a final in the chamber.

Congratulations to Rachael and Chris for winning the final (from second proposition on the motion 'TH values ecology over development'), to Rachael for being the best speaker of the day, and to James and Miles for also making the final.

Furthermore, a huge thank you to everyone who came down and supported our teams during the final and participated during the day. It was a fun day/evening and the ESU really appreciated our being there.

Please see below a motion from Ted Brocklebank MSP saying well done to Chris and Rachel. Indeed, well done to everyone at St Andrews for a great day of debating,

Thanks

Ted Brocklebank: Congratulations to the University of St Andrews Debating Team—That the Parliament congratulates Rachel Whitbread and Chris Hawkins from the University of St Andrews on winning the annual St Andrew’s Day debating championship, hosted jointly by the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government and chaired by the Presiding Officer; further congratulates Rachel on also winning Best Speaker of the Day, and notes that St Andrews once again has shown why it is one of the top universities in Britain.
