PG Events for the Summer

Postby Rachel Marsh on Mon May 09, 2005 6:52 pm

While the undergraduates are away the postgraduates will play.

Do you have any ideas for fun summer events? Or would you like to help organize already existing PG events? If so, come to the planning meeting on Thursday, 19 May at 7:30 in the Committee Room of the Union.

Possible events for the summer will include:
Shortest night of the year bonfire.
Christmas in July
4th of July Celebration
Football Tournament
Pool Tournament
Mini Golf Tournament
Darts Contest
Weekly Pub Quizzes
Edinburgh Fringe Coach Trip

Last years pool tournament was so badly organised.

And...is there any chance of doing a free round of the Himalayas for postgrads, just like last year - that was great fun!

Ooh I was going to ask about the putting on the Himalayas too - really enjoyed that, and there seemed to be quite a few pgs down there.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, it\'s good to know what was a hit last year. And just to let you know, this summers events will be determined and run by the PGs (that means anyone who wants to become involved). So if you have something you were particularly fond of, please go to the meeting on Thursday.

Just like last year's were - though, admittedly, the number of PGs who were actively involved in the events' planning and execution was somewhere in the vicinity of 2...

Apologies, by the way, for the disaster that was the Pool Tournament. Not one of my better ideas.

Hey,

I am not a PG but will be loitering around here all summer. If you are struggling to find anyone to organise things I will be happy to help. There are few things I am good at, but planning a party is one of them. :P

It's great to see so many good things planned for the summer. The Gannochy and Dean's Court committee's are working very hard this year planning lots of parties and events.
Starting with May 28th, we're having an end of exams/start of summer barbecue and party - with our very own dj Bilal Saab.
All welcome, free food and drink from 6.30 (as long as it lasts...)

Hope to see you all there!

edit: oops i forgot to put the venue - the Dean's Court garden!

also - representatives from both committees will be along for the meeting on thursday night

Party/BBQ still on tonight... if it rains we'll just go inside the dean's court common room.
I think the sun is going to come out though soon!

Party Funding

Postby Mary Magdalene on Mon Jun 06, 2005 2:48 pm

I recall reading on here once that if a bunch of postgrads wanted to ask for money for an event they just had to ask.

So whose got the dough because I got a party?

There are guidelines as to how to spend the cash (i.e. you can't spend it on certain things); however, the woman to see is Bonnie Ryder, the Students' Association's Director of Services, who can be found on the middle floor of the Students' Association or contacted on doserv@st-andrews.ac.uk.

Hiya, you have to go to the student Union because Rachel is out of the country right now. If you go to the main office, ask for the students who have the year off to do events. While you are talking to them, ask why they haven't started any of the scheduled Postgrad summer events...Please. I have already tried emailing.
