Yes, sometimes. There are good weeks when it all goes really well, and my motivation is through the roof. Then there are days like today when I am sitting in my office wondering what is the point.

Yeah, I hope it's not just me that feels like that sometimes!
I know the whole point of research is to get things wrong sometimes (especially in Sciences I suspect?), but it just sometimes feels like a whole waste of time when i work so hard on something and end up with either no results, or inconclusive ones, or just not very interesting ones.

Frequently...I'm finding it really tough this year as I don't have an office anymore - it's hard to get motivated in the mornings, and I'm getting sick of being alone in the flat day after day after day. I'm writing up too, which is not half as fun as actually doing the research.

Really? I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit it, but research never floated my boat all that much. (I can only say that now I'm not pursuing an academic career, of course.)
