Damn, I screwed up the title. Anyway, the Project Anime Library is now available for borrowing (to compensate for the fact that thanks to the Union bog all is happening...grr). if you want to borrow anything, either from the society or me personally, contact a member of the committee- preferably me, as its in my room...

P.S. Still no word on a room. Patience, young sparrows, we will reach the Promised Land (maybe we should rname the Salad Bowl that...)

stupid Disney? I think the picture quality was decent, as were the subtitles. The dub is awful (I'm a Streamline version fan), but since I almost always never listen to dubs, that doesn't matter to me.

What was the sticking point for you, for the Laputa DVD?

The subtitles were awful! They're for the English version, so they're no good as translatations, and people speak when they shouldn't be, and the soundtrack was changed, and AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

*looks on in shock* Uh... this is news to me. I knew they changed the soundtrack, but the new music doesn't show on the Japanese track. At least I don't remember it doing so.

Ironically, I was thinking yesterday about watching my Laputa DVD again today.

*blinks repeatedly* Okay, I think I'm going to have to scavenge Nausicaa.net for more information. This is deeply disturbing...

I'm surprised there wasn't an outcry big enough to stop this from happening before the DVD was released. The Studio Ghibli fans on the Miyazaki Mailing List and AnimeOnDVD.com forums are quite passionate about such things.

Well I have found out some more information. Apparently it is the UK (Region 2) release of Laputa - Castle in the Sky, that has dubtitles. This problem does not occur in the USA (Region 1) release, which is what I have.

As long as you have a multiregion player then you will have no problems, and there was an outcry when DVD regions were announced, but were ignored as the complaints of pirates *sigh*

Also an addition to the library, I have the complete series of Full Metal Alchemist on NTSC DVD (Region 0, so it will work in almost any player). Now this is not a version with a dub, and whilst the subtitles for the first few episodes are fine (pinched form the real English edition) the rest are erratic at best. They are also incosistent, but not so bad to be indeciferable (and some very good Zero Wing grammar too!). An excellent series. I will point out that the real English edition only runs to 8 episodes (of 51, next 4 are due out for Christmas) and costs £15 per disc (of 4) totalling a whopping £195 for the whole series after waiting about 2 years for them all to be released. And they wonder why people get pirate copies from Singapore and Hong Kong...
