Musical Taste

Welcome to the RockSoc board, it gets worse here every day... talk about RockSoc, rock music, plain rocks or other silly irrelevant drivel. All are welcome: members & non-members, of the past, present & future.

Musical Taste

I'm bored and wondered what percentage of RockSoc actually like rock. Excuse the limited scope of genres.
Aren't you all entitled to your half-arsed musings...You've thought about eternity for 25 minutes and think you've come to some interesting conclusions...My kind have harvested the souls of a million peasants and I couldn't give a ha'penny jizz for your internet assembled philosophy

My playlist at the moment (with things like Inkubus Sukkubus, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bauhaus on it) says goth, though there's also Lords of Acid, System of a Down and Tool on there.

My music taste ranges from Dido to Cradle of Filth, skipping past old punk rock and goth rock on the way, so although I've voted goth, in reality I'm all over the board.

Lame, but cooler than you.

To be fair I don't think I could just choose just one. I like punk, ska, metal, rock, classical...Lots of things really. Though I spose I'm more of a punk kid myself hmmm. It's too early to ponder these things, gah.

Alternatively, we could have a 'which genre sucks the most' poll...as I can't choose which one I like best :) Damn my love of most music :P

I voted for metal, however my love of metal has limits. I love rock too, provided it is real rock, if it doesn't have a guitar solo its pushing it. If you want a list of bands I'll compile it and get back to you...

Yeah, I noticed people recognised Hell March when I played it at SABRE! Indeed I was talking about the music from Command and Conquer and Red Alert, 'cos it rocks. There were other asterisks though. And I know PaddyW and Darth Fanboy know who they are!

Demons and Wizards are a side project of Hansi Kursch (lead singer of Blind Guardian) and Jon Schafer (Rhythm guitarist of Iced Earth). Hansi is God. My opinion of Schafer has improved because of his proximity to Hansi, who is God.

Woohoo! Black Mages! Skies Above!

Queen
Iron Maiden
(Early )Metallica
Manowar
The Offspring
Judas Priest
Bon Jovi
U2
Cibo Matto
The Animals
DragonForce (even though they SUCK!!)
Joe Hisaishi
Koji Kondo
Blind Guardian (beacuse Hansi is God)
The Black Mages
The Who
Yoko Kanno
Hammerfall
Blaze (Woohoo! Virtual XI rocked! I care not for the words of naysayers)
The Pillows
Pink Floyd
The Sex Pistols
The soundtrack to Zelda
Susumu Hirasawa
Stratovarius
Helloween
Demons & Wizards
Megadeth
Sonata Artica
Iced Earth (thanks to Glorious Burden)

Whee! If anyone cares, I mostly listen to electronica and industrial these days (Depeche Mode, NIN, VNV Nation, Covenant, Apoptygma Berzerk, Skinny Puppy, etc.) but still some traditional rock is nice, and even some metal...depending on who it is (Marilyn Manson still gets my vote). Still to acquire a taste for death metal alas. Oh, and the band I hate most, and who totally suck monkey balls, is the one you love best....

[hr]

I probably don't like you, but don't take it personally. Nobody likes you.

Well, it'd be entirely unsurprising to anyone who has ever heard one of my sets (both at RockSoc and elsewhere) that my own taste in music precludes a favourite genre...

For example, I was listening to Perfect Circle and Aerosmith yesterday, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer Album this morning, Grease on the way home and the Moulin Rouge soundtrack is on just now. On the coach back from St Andrews on Sunday (unfortunately I couldn't be there for the May Dip with the rest of you soldiers given I had work on Monday...) there was Pantera, Green Day, Nirvana, Kaleb (naturally) and I seem to recall some Electric Light Orchestra. And on Friday I was reminded how good 'Raspberry Beret' by Prince is. (But only when the DJ knows how to beatmix properly. Idiot.)

Eclectic doesn't really come into it sometimes. I believe the word is 'twisted'...
