As far as I know, the union only lets RocSoc exist because the money they make over the bar.
This is also why they let the noise complaints and the fact that rocsoc expects the union to clean up after their crap (other societies are required to clean up the room after using it, put the tables back etc) is ignored.
Having attended rocsoc religiously throughout my first year, I became disenfranchised this year and have stopped going. While I agree with everyone that it's impossible to please everyone, I have found the music chosen to be not to my taste, with DJs one after the other playing [articularly heavy music, something I have only a limited taste for. Due to this I'm unsure why I should still turn up faithfully and pay entrace fee every two weeks to spend an evening listening to music for which I have no tolerance.
That being said, I'll be joining rocksoc next year in the hope of changes.
On the point of RockVault, as someone pointed out, the condition for rockvault getting the room is that there is not something else on, generally something that is found out on Thursday, something that does not trouble RockSoc.
RockVault cannot charge entrance because of the generally short nature of the arrangement, the problem of finding someone to collect money and the question of where the money should go.
The idea of comparing RockVault to EmoSoc is riduculous, one is a SOCIETY and the other an EVENT and therefore are entirely different things.
It probably didn't help matters this year that instead of listening to the increasing number of dissenters, Jez resorted to more and more vulgar and childish remarks.
Err, Ok? I was banned because the admin has a rather unique view of what constitues pornography, but that's neither here nor there.
People knew I was opinionated when I was voted in, and I reigned my own personal opinions in considerably when I was Prez. Now I'm not so I can say what the fuck I want. Free speech eh?
Don't know what you mean by heavier and heavier music, most of the music complaints we got were "not enough metal" and "too much pop". Perhaps Rocksoc is not for you? Or perhaps it's people only hearing what they dislike and speaking up then, rather than congratulating people on a set well done. Although to be fair at the AGM people were very nice to me, so there you go.
The DJs are normally specially chosen so that DJ sets of conflicting styles aren't together. For example an average line up may be:
Jenni (Indie Rock, Classic, Maiden and Show tunes)
Kat (Power and Extreme Metal)
Ann (Pop Punk and Cheese)
But yes I see there is an abundance of extreme metal DJs. There are in fact three of us that like it. ZOMG.
And hey, I'm fine with personal attacks and all, but try not to be annonymous. I put my name behind it so if a line is crossed people can punch me in the face. Feel like doing the same? I mean you're in second year, you've got to have a sinner account by now.
