Welcome to the RockSoc board, it gets worse here every day... talk about RockSoc, rock music, plain rocks or other silly irrelevant drivel. All are welcome: members & non-members, of the past, present & future.

Requests Thread

Postby underworlddreams on Mon Feb 16, 2004 7:35 pm

Right, guys - listen up! This is the official requests thread! We have one simple rule to make sure that everyone gets what they want out of this:

Nothing but requests - that means no saying 'more of this' or 'less of that' or 'RockSoc would be better if...' Just requests, please.

We are trying to make RockSoc as user-friendly as possible, and, despite it being widely known, hardly anyone makes requests anymore. Or dances. You can't expect us to play music you like all the time if you don't indicate what you'd like to hear!

(Oh, and for those interested, making a request is not going to guarantee that we will play it. So don't even think of asking for ABBA...)

[hr]They say that if you play a Windows Install CD backwards, you hear satanic messages. That's nothing - play it forwards, and it installs Windows...

Nine Inch Nails - Sin because no places i've been to have played this one (unless it was played in Derby once) & it deserves to be played

Mr Manson - Sweet Dreams because it rocks hard & User Friendly because the lyrics are just so right

Ministry - Jesus Built My Hot Rod, Bad Blood, Just One Fix, Burning Inside or Stigmata (but not NWO as it's comparatively dull)

Skunk Anansie - Charlie Big Potato because it has breakbeats, is dark & filled with tension

Placebo - Every Me Every You though the singles off of Black Market Music were all pretty rocking numbers as well, those being Slave Against the Wage & Special K

Smashing Pumpkins - The Everlasting Gaze because it has a huge riff similar in size to that of Corgan's Celebrity Skin riff

KoRn - Blind because it's a classic, Faget because some of the lyrics are somewhat cathartic & Got the Life because it rocks & has a funky, skippy beat

that'll do. & yes it did take me more than 5 minutes to compile. ;)

Come to one then...Thursday of week 4 in venue 2 from 8pm. None of that stuff is beyond the possible, march of the pigs is a good bet if you bring along the cd and ask the dj nicely. If they refuse, come crying to me (Emma) and I'll make them.

Good choices.

Loco deserves to be played now & again as it was a classic for some of us. & it's virtually the only Chamber song that everyone knows.

HIM are good as they play girly metal & Join Me rocks like a thingamy.

Cradle rock & could do with a few more airings although personally i'd prefer some classic Cradle, the likes of, Funeral in Carpathia, From the Cradle to Enslave or even Her Ghost in the Fog.

I love Cradle to bits, but I don't see them as a very Rocksoc thing. Long, involved songs are great for sitting at home pretending to be a vampire but I don't think they're great dancefloor-fillers.

Just my opinion.

Only Cradle song you could get away with would be their wonderful cover of "Hallowed Be Thy Name". Could be fun though... :)

get away with? this is Cradle of Filth we're talking about here. i remember From the Cradle to Enslave being played at RockSoc a while ago (may even have been last year) & it went down a treat on the dancefloor.

we've been rather starved of Cradle who are a band which have at least for a black metal(ish) band have at least had a couple of decent hits. i can't see anything wrong with putting a bit of Cradle on providing it's maybe in the 1st half of the night.

I wasn't saying we shouldn't, just that its not everyone's cup of tea, just like Green Day isn't (they are both, however, my rather large steaming cups of caffeinated drink).

I think it might be fair to say that as many people hate Green Day as hate Cradle...so I've just disproven my own argument.

Fuck it!

Have taken the requests to heart, and trawled through them to see which ones i had available...which turned out only be six. Which is disheartening. Anyway will be playing these six tonight.

Keep this requests board going, its a great idea

I want 'Hey Mickey' by Toni Basil-- no kidding....
And more stuff to dance to e.g. Offspring, Less Than Jake, Blondie [please]....
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the substrate.

well done to the djs for incorporating the requests into the setlists last time around.

i remember hearing:
KoRn - Blind
Placebo - Days Before You Came
Mr Manson's Sweet Dreams (which went down a treat on the floor i thought)

&:
Slipknot - Wait & Bleed
Tool - Schism
Drowning Pool - Bodies (worked pretty well even if it was played early on)

& whilst i'm here i'll add a Silverchair choice (or two) to the aforementioned Freak:

Silverchair - Suicidal Dream (starts moody & gets properly heavy & is called Suicidal Dream as well)

failing that there's always:

Silverchair - Anthem for the Year 2000 (which doesn't exactly lack heaviness one way or another)
