I just don't like playing on it, too bright for one thing. I just think the dust map is over rated. Ok it is true that lots of people play it, but that don't make it the best though. Not sure what my fav map is, as it has been a while since i have played CS.

You need to start half-life with the -console option so

hl.exe -game cstrike -console

Then on the main menu you should have an option at the top called console. Click on that and type

connect 123.123.123.12:12345

Where 123.123.123.12:12345 is the ip address and port that you want to connect to.

In case you didn't know the starting the console bit - find your CS shortcut (be it on the desktop or in the windows menu) and right click on it, and click properties.

Where it says Target:
It should, by default, say something like:
C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game cstrike

So just click and the end of that, press space and add:
-console

so it'll read
C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game cstrike -console



Edited to add:
When you do this, it'll put a console option on the usual counterstrike menu.
You can also access the console in game now by pressing ` (that's the button next to 1 that's not 2 - above the TAB key)

i have no clue wut a custom game is but every time i try to join a server it says i have to install the custom game. Can u tell me wut this means and how i can fix it.

Presumably you've bought half life, and want to play counterstrike yes?

If so, download the game:

(on a side note - www.bygames.com is FANTASTIC for downloads - even on 56k I get 7.3k/sec)

And install it - it should default to your halflife directory, but if it doesn't then install it there.

It should shortcuts to counterstrike on yer desktop - so you run them and you're good to go. (Will search for counterstrike servers when you go into the multiplayer stuff)
