Blocked Ports

Postby Power Metal Dom on Sat Mar 04, 2006 4:39 am

I'm sure we have all run into these problems...

* some programs won't work: kazaa (a friend has told me), bit torrent (the same friend has told me), msn messenger webcam, yahoo webcam, WoW(a friend informs me), etc

* some websites: www.habbohotel.co.uk etc

My question is...how to make these work?

I assume you are on resnet. In which case you can do precisely nothing. Bit Torrent is a no-no as is a lot of other stuff, off the top of my head about the only open ports are email (21, 25) http and a few others. Nothing in the 6000 range (where Kazaa and Bit Torrent work) is open. I think video messaging works fine (my flatmate was using Skype though). If you really want I can do a port scan again.

Yup. You can't do anything. At all. Not a thing.

You can use Kazaa, Bittorrent and everything like that fine.

You just need to know how :p

And no, none of us here will tell u how, cos it's breaking the rules and wiresoc does not support that :p

Rules aside, you really should not be using Kazaa anyway.

Indeed, a hideous piece of software it is, and there's more crap on the network than there is content. At least, last time I used it, which was a couple of years ago now...

I'm not so sure. I usually find something BitTorrent I really want, but chances are there's about 50 people leeching and nobody seeding any particular file you're after. IMHO it should be part of the BitTorrent protocol to seed as soon as you have the file, wouldn't this solve the problem?

It is, although not everyone sticks to it. If you want to get good quality stuff quickly and are prepared to seed back what you take then you should join a private community. It's not too hard to find one with open signups.
