I'm in here right now and I have to ask...

Why oh WHY, is the right mouse button disabled?!

Can anyone think of a valid reason why this commonly used (and in some cases essential) button is prohibited?

It's SO [insert prefered swear word here]ing annoying!!!

It's disabled everywhere. I think they don't want you making shortcuts to stuff they don't want you to have.

But it is annoying not having the privilege level to safely unmount a USB stick on Windows 2000. I might ask ITS about that, all it takes is for one person to lose a Senior Honours project through that and all hell'll break loose.

You can still unmount a USB stick with a single left click on the icon in the taskbar notification area.

Email recieved from David Millar of IT Services on 17th Oct 2005:

"Making the removal option available opens up a number of other vulnerabilities
that we're not too keen on.

I normally just wait a couple of minutes after the drive light goes out, and
just pull it - and I've never lost anything. If you're concerned about
something important, shut the machine down and pull the flash drive out after
it's switched off. (Then turn it on again ready for the next person to use.)

If it's something really, really important, you should save it on your home
drive rather than on vulnerable removable media."

Personally I find using a USB stick in the above fashion safer than using my "home drive", at least I can normally get access to it which is dubious with the home drive at times.

Disallowing Ctrl+N for a new window in IE is another nonsensical restriction. But then, making it slightly harder to use doesn't really annoy me much more than IE already does.

That's true, but then you get all kinds of nasty cascading windows. Being used to Firefox I like to open a slew of links at a time before reading them, which is awkward with individual windows, particularly if they keep obscuring themselves.
