Private WoW Server - whose interested

Postby Renegadeandy on Sat Oct 21, 2006 4:19 pm

Well hello people.

Im a second year - posted here ages ago taking comp sci. I know Malcolm he posts here.

Anyhow - I have come across the knowledge and files in order to allow me to create a private World of Warcraft server for anyone who wants to join whom i give the ip. I can make installation discs which will skip blizzard and connect straight to my server.

Now, i can do this and will do it if people are interested - I think it would be great fun and surprisingly would work well. We can set game speed and various variables and areas so it wont take 2.5 years of slogging to get a knife that can kill sum1 , or whatever you want - we could discuss.

Let me know - hit me with some feedback!

Thanks guys

Andy

Oh god, the ultimate time blackhole. Do you want people to fail?

I didn't know the emulation had advanced that far yet. How much game content do they have?

A lot.

Well as i said - I can set everything up so it wouldnt be the life consuming fear everyone fears.

Are you interested - that is the key. Also ask around - im bout 75% setting up the server - so far it works perfectly just setting up little bits and sorting out problems.

Thanks

As long as you can do admin stuff to get around the grind, I'd be interested in playing a little.

btw, this thread is likely to get deleted.

Err why - it is not actually illegal by any means - in fact blizzard encourage it as it means people try th egame and then join the real thing which is obviosely better.

My first thought was "surely there's copyright and licensing problems with this"?

Besides, aren't you on ResNet? Where would you be running the server from?

Andy's in a flat, so hosting the server wouldn't be a problem.

It'd be more of a problem getting out of Resnet and onto his server.

I thought Blizzard hated emulation of their stuff? I remember them shutting down a couple of Battle.net server emulators.

Sounds like fun if the grinding is bypassed, I'd be up for a game.

Yes but besides the problems, of which there are very little that will make a problem for copyright uses etc, shall i go ahead and make one?

I could release a version which would work within a couple of days and give people copies if they would like.

Thanks

How would you get it running for people in halls?

Well - basically ignore it , or dont play if you dont like the sound of it. People on Resnet could join if i put it on the right ports - extensive will be carried out.

I think i am nearly ready to let people test it out - whose up for it.

Can you release it prior to to getting it working for people on resnet? Just to make sure that other people can play on it and such.
