Has IRC been blocked on resnet? I know i haven't been able to connect to the wired irc server in roughly a month from home and now i cant get onto any using either mirc or a web based java applet. Tbh if they have blocked it i am quite disappointed considering it uses less bandwidth than the msn messenger that is still running.

I was unable to connect to any IRC servers on the wireless network. I guess the block has been made to cover the entire university network, or at least resnet and eduroam.

Eh, probably a security thing.

Where does eduroam cover?

eduroam is the replacement for albatross. It basically covers everywhere the university wireless covered before. It does seem as if the IRC block is an ITS-wide thing though, I was unable to connect to IRC from Butts Wynd last week.

Was it removed? Suddenly the irc chat client top of this page doesen't want to work at all in teh bute

There was http://www.thesinner.net/messageboard-viewthread.php?thread=30189 in which Owen explained that he'd opened port 8080 for IRC on zernebok.com. But that'll only get you onto #thesinner, or other overfl0w channels.

Incorrect, some other IRC servers do special ports.

o rly Senethro, thanks for pointing that out. I meant that Owen's specific instructions for his own server would only allow you to reach overfl0w channels.
