It got replaced with Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, because nobody was playing CS. It's swings and roundabouts. Everyone deserts CS and we move to Wolf, then vice versa. We can't keep everything up at once because we have a very limited selection of open ports.

shame - am therefore trying to install ET; have installed wolfet.exe and et_patch_current. what else do i need to do, and in what order? the startup thread wasn't too helpful on this . . .

That should be all you require, does the game run? The server is wired.st-and.ac.uk or 138.251.10.18, port 27960 from memory. You'll need to be on the University network, which I believe you already are.

You can VPN in. Like you've always been able to.

I'm guessing the lag is massive though?

A ping of 50-75ish is really the highest that is playable.
