To be fair, the constitution calls it GaySoc.

[hr]

Which constitution?
I still go with Faggot Soc......

Shock Horror no one is backing the PC change to Transperson!

The one I saw in the Societies Office, in the filing cabinet.

Tetragrammaton is a four letter word.

I'm afraid you are either mistaken or looking at an old constitution. The name was changed in 1998 to LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Society) and the current constitution reflects this.

Hey LGBTQCASRESPECT,

We did tweak the the constitution since 2001 and even when I saw that crusty old scrap book from the 70s, it was only casually referred to as the GaySoc.
As for FaggotSoc, Dickie you're making me St Andrews again.

The problem I had with the term 'LGBT' was having to say, the 'LGBT Community' or some other sickly sweet PC phrase rather than gay people on the offchance I might get assaulted by a thought policeman.

With Mancunian bars like Queer serving cheap wine, you'd be surprised how quickly you get used to saying, 'I'll be in Queer in 5 minutes', so maybe terms like that and faggot will become less offensive. However, they are not particularly inclusive of that fabulous 'LGBT Community'.

Hope everything is going well up there... I'm considering a visit up North on the back of a paid PhD interview or somesuch.

Very impressed with the new website btw!

there is a constitution which refers to the society as GaySoc, as I should well know.

But who cares - call it PuffSoc and be done...

The very idea that there is a discussion as to the name (current & official) of the Society, means that there is a need to fix a name. It would also be a good idea to fix a constitution too.

I would hate for the Society, what ever it be called, not to know its own name!!!!!!

FaggotSoc is easy for me to spell

Back when I were a lad, it was called GLAS - the Gay and Lesbian Awareness Society. If Dickie is the Dickie that I think he is, then he should be old enough to remember that as well.

Of course, I could be wrong. On both counts.

Bless.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

As I recall, Fashion And Glamour Soc was a very popular choice at the turn of the millennium.

The society's never officially been called GaySoc, but we did open a bank account with the name (I was there) because they complained that universityofstandrewslesbiangaybisexualandtransgenderedsociety was too long for them to deal with, then they laughed at us.

Whoever has the original scrapbook, please let me know, as a lot of the stuff in there is mine, including all the letters from possible honorary members, which i'd like back... i thought it had been swallowed up by the horror that was ten albany park.

if there is an old copy of the constitution in the societies office then there shouldn't be, the members lists are kept in the filing cabinet sealed and should be destroyed at the end of each year, i hope this is still happening.

it'll always be bendysoc to me.

We're on the hunt for it now...

I don't think it happens, but we can make sure it happens properly from now on.

But if anyone is on the ball then the T should now stand for Transperson, and thus remove the idea of gender spacific issues...

As some of you will know the name has now been changed to The University of St Andrews Lesbain, Gay, Bisexual and Transperson Society.

How politicaly corect can we be, Faggots!

Just to stick my tuppenceworth in here, LGBT is not an acronym. It's an abbreviation, because elgeebeetee is not a word in its own right.
