Hey just looking for some information on what you do up in st andrews as a group? im currently at edinburgh university but have just applied for a postgraduate course at St A chemistry dept. I cant really imagine St Andrews having an exciting gay scene or one at all, so really just wondering what to expect, esp coming from edinburgh where the scene is comparitively okay. Is there much of a gay group? Not that any of this will effect my choice in studying for a phd but i feel that its quite a good thing to look into.

kind regards, Daniel

It's late and I have an essay looming but take a look at the website in the meantime :)

You're right in assuming St Andrews does not have a "gay scene", per se, (certainly not on a par with Edinburgh or Glasgow) but it does have an active and prominent LGBT community. The LGBT Society (LGBTsoc) hosts weekly events and currently has circa 100 members who are representative of a larger LGBT population in the town.

As a Society we host a variety of events (a selection from the past 12 months are on the website - http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~lgbtsoc ) and as a town, St Andrews is "gay-friendly", despite its small size. Although it can't compare to the sort of experience in larger cities, the cosmopolitan nature of the town and large student population means it feels a lot more like a "city" in many respects.
