Skirting boards ...?

PostPosted: Fri Apr 22, 2005 2:28 pm

We had an inspection yesterday. Apparently our skirting boards weren't clean enough. This is the first time any mention has ever been made about the cleanliness of our skirting boards, and it does seem a bit strange that they're fussing about them all of a sudden. Anyone else had mention made of their skirting boards, or is it just us?

We get it every month. It'd be so funny if they actually tried to get cleaners in to do them though and charge us. "Oh yes, and that will be £12 each for cleaning of erm... ... skirting boards" Aye, that'll be right, fuck off or you can speak to my lawer.

yes!

we got that on this inspection too!

it makes me absolutely crazy as i lived with the most disgusting bunch last year, who never cleaned, and this year we have a houseful of very clean people who (yes, seriously!) have a cleaning rota for inspections...and we get the same comments on the report!! explain that one to me!

i wouldn't even mind if the house was clean when we arrived, but frankly it was minging this year - which admittedly i've never had before in here. so we got a dirty house to start with, and are told to clean it up...fair? i think not! how many times have you scrubbed with bleach the edge of the stairs???

anyways, rant over, but the upshot is, requests to clean skirting boards are daft!

Requests to clean the skirting boards are bad, but we get told every single month to wipe our doors! Who wipes their goddamn doors?!

Oh, and on the subject of how clean the house was when we arrived, our house still had dirty dishes in the sink and decomposing fruit in the cupboards. I'm really hoping for someone to tell us to leave our houses as we found them when we leave this year!

we get told that every month even tho we usually make some kind of an attempt to clean them. it usually seems to be when they are happy with everything else an so im guessing its cos they are just mean an dont want to say that we actually managed to tidy up to their standards.

We failled this mornign and have been asked to pay. I sent this e-mail to the office.

Hi,

this morning we failled our house inspection and have been notified we will be charged for cleaning. We find this rather unfair.

According to the notes for students residing in Fife Park.

"The occupants are expected to leave the property clean and tidy and charges will be made if cleaning is required at the end of tenancy or if an interm clean becomes necessary in the interests of the health and safety of the occupants."

Since this is not the end of our tenancy only the interest of health and safety factor applies. Now, our house is not clean, perhaps even far from it, but it in no way is a danger to health and safety. The microwave, cooker and fridge are all spotless and there are no unclean dishes. Before carrying out any such cleaning I would ask that you supply a list, with reference to health and safety, of what exactly is intended to be cleaned and how this will increase the health and safety of the occupants of this house.

Below I have listed the areas we failled in, I have been been hard pressed to thing of any health and safety reasons fitting to these areas being cleaned.

All floors washed
Stairs Hoovered and fronts washed
Outside of upper toilet bowl cleaned
All doors wiped
Wall beside cooker washed
Shower room cleaned in all areas

Thanks you in advance for reading

Andy

Hello,

I sent the following e-mail on thursday of last week. I have not yet had a reply. If you are deliberating as to what to put in a reply could you please acknowledge receipt of this e-mail so I know it hasn't gotten lost in the ether of the internet.

Thanks

Andy

Same here! It wasn't about skirting boards, but basically the result of the inspections seems to be a bit hit and miss. The last one we had said it needed reinspecting, after we'd cleaned half the house, and yet there have been times where we've done far less and been told it was OK. I reckon they need to find fault with a certain number of houses in order to get more money out of us, for the cleaning. Otherwise, why no consistency???

Has this been resolved?

Yes,

They will now inspect after we leave and if it is dirty then they will charge us. Pretty fair I recon.

P.S. The are going to try and change the contratc for next year, although since we have already received the one for next year it is likely they won't be able to until the year after.
