To be fair anyone worth anything on the committee should be thinking ahead now. If Ball convenor can be elected before the next year I dont see why ents, librarian, computer rep and second to fourth year reps cant be elected too.
That was changed in April 2001. Until then most positions were elected in the previous academic year. This was changed (apparently) because:

[li] The meeting was poorly attended.
[li] Well over half the hall had no say in who was elected to represent them (as they arrived in September), and most of these who had a say had left.
[li] There was less scope for new students to join the committee (due to lack of open positions).

Of course those on the committee should be thinking ahead. The Senior Ball Convenor should have organised a venue for example. But that does not explain why there are no places for the other Charities/Ball Convenors on the subcommittees.
Yeah dont try and turn the handles on the outside of the door or we KNOW you're new. Its quite hilarious to see people struggle turning the handles in various ways and you simply walk up and push the door. Ah the look of sheer embarrassment.
That reminds me of the similar happening:
Over one Easter, the handle on the small door at the end of the common room had been fixed. It was amusing to watch all those who had got used to just pushing the door open, running straight into the door. Needless to say, the handle was broken again within a week or two.

Just watch out for the F-floor monster!
