Did you show Braindead last night? I really wanted to see it, but my sensibilities prevented it (had to sleep :( ).

i think we need a girly movie night. i am not really opposed to watching movies such as the rock and kill bill but i think we need a change of pace.

you had better do it hopie as that is what a good big brother would do!

A Little Night Music . . .

Postby a kela on Wed Oct 20, 2004 8:58 pm

I think we should have a night devoted to musicals! My suggestions would be:
"The Sound of Music" (as I know for a fact that some people in hall have never seen it-- oh, the travesty-- how are we raising our children these days?)
"My Fair Lady" (one of the best musicals of all time with classic Audrey Hepburn and loverly fashion for the women and lots of male chauvinism for the men)
"Chicago" or "Moulin Rouge" (something from the wave of modern muscial film-- I'd vote for the former, though, as I can't really stomach the latter)
I can just imagine the tv room devolving into the euphoria of a sing-along (and I do know the words to all of the songs, so don't think it won't happen). I really do think it would be good for everyone's general health to have a night devoted to the musical genre . . . they're just so heartwarming!

Foreign Film Night

Postby a kela on Wed Oct 20, 2004 9:10 pm

Aren't I just full of good suggestions? A foreign film night would be superb (you know, add a little culture to our Sunday nights). I would propose a line-up of:

1) From French cinema (so much to choose from, but it probably draw the most people to go with a recent and well-known picture): "Amelie" (though this would also be the perfect opportunity to show "La Haine" or classics like "Grand Illusion" or "Le 400 Coups")

2) From Spanish cinema: "Todo sobre mi madre" (All About My Mother), brillianty directed by Pedro Almodóvar, or alternately the sultry Mexican film "Y Tu Mama Tambien" (And Your Mother, Too)

3) From Italian cinema: "Il Postino" (The Postman)-- such a sweet film

Wouldn't an evening of horror films be seasonally appropriate?

If you show any cartoons during film night, I shall boycott (saying that, though, I realize it will just give you more incentive to show them-- damn-- you've bested me again, mr. hopwood).

not sure how well that would work - if you haven't paid hall subs, you don't get to go to hall events.

I haven't watched any of these movies yet, so forgive my ignorance, but how are you stopping non-hall people or those who haven't paid subs from watching the films?

Weve only done it once and it involves checking names on the door before the movie and "bouncers" keeping out non payers

the same policy will apply to other hall events

I could pay a pound for every film? But on second thoughts, screw it, I'll just rent them.
