I have heared people mention/moan that the common room is cliquey but i'm not all that bothered as its by and large people who I like that have monopolised our once communal common room.
Quoting jono from 00:16, 3rd Jan 2007Also, I feel that in the name of hall spirit, we should all try and make the common room less cliqy. how we achive that I don't know. Perhaps it would help if the sofas weren't dominated by one group of people twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

When I'm talking about the 'cliquey' common room, I'm referring to the fact that, last year, if you walked into the common room at nearly any hour there would be a different group in there, be it 'Cook and Krystal's mates', or the now 'Ardblair/Elis place crew', or the people hung around with mostly...there were always different people there and we used to intermingle with these different main groups. This year it is pretty much the same group. There is nothing 'wrong' or anything 'needed to be done to change this', it's just one of the things I didnt like about hall this year, and what I think contributes to hall spirit.

Perhaps we just need to be more random - don't let people settle into a routine - keep 'em guessin' - more common room events might be a solution but I don't know - I don't actually have any good ideas - only that I'm thinking being a bit more random might be a good new years resolution.

I think that the common room is slightly cliquey, but there's no point complaining about it on the Sinner as the only people who go on here are the people who often "clog" up the common room.
In any case, everyone knows the common room is there, but not many people choose to use it. Quite a few of the A-floor girls are just as cliquey and I once heard a rumour that C-floor had set up its own common room next to the green room or something. I think that rumour was proved false, but it proves that no one else seems particularly willing about going into the common room and intermingling with everyone else to try and dispel the problem when their first port of call is to create a new social area, rather than being friendly in the one they've already got.
In any case, the common room is being cliqued up by people I like, so I'm not too bothered, to be honest.

I would say that the "clique" that uses the common room or small tv room isn't a clique at all. It's just a large group of friends, friends who vary from 1st to 4th year, different floors, different groups within that group etc. While people may find this group intimidating and might think people outwith this group aren't welcome, that's certainly not the case or the impression given off, at least not in my opinion. If people were really that bothered about the same people using the common room, why not make an effort to try and get to know these people, or come along to the events like Riho mentioned? It's all very well saying "we need to stop it being so cliquey" but other people need to make the effort too.
