Hello,

I'm Seth Ewin and I'm running Association President, I'd be very glad to answer any questions you may have for me once campaigning starts.

If elected, what commitment to environmental and ethical issues can the students expect from you? What do you consider the role of President in this regard to be, and how do you intend to best fulfil that role?

Already this year I have shown my support for environmental issues both being actively involved in street theatre for the build-up to and the march itself for Ethical Investment. I was involved with the Simon Pepper campaign from the start, which should show where my opinions lie.

I don't just intend to uphold policy, I actually believe in it as well. As President I'd fight for environmental and ethical causes throughout the university.

My usual question for all potential sabbs: wnat are your plans for next year if you don't win?
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the substrate.

A Masters in Philosophy if I can get the funding if not then a course in journalism, which would be my intention in the end anyway.

This question goes out to all the AP candiates - no copying from each other, kids.

Following on from the other thread, it's a great shame how under-advertised this election has been thus far and the high number of uncontested seats can only be deleterious to the quality of candiates being elected. Do you believe that the student population is, by and large, quite apathetic towards union politics and how would you go about solving this problem?

It has been brought to my attention that certain people refer to me as a legend. Should you meet one of these people, maintain a safe distance and telephone the police. Under no circumstances attempt to deal with them by yourself.

It is very unfortunate more students have not decided to run. In particular the three uncontested SAB posts.

I think we could perhaps do with a somewhat bigger publicity drive that started earlier.

Making the Association more accessible in general would help, and as someone who is approachable to students I feel I could help make this happen. Having been a performer in numerous plays and improvised comedy gigs I do know how to raise interest and awareness among the student population, getting an audience and communicating with them is something of my forte I'd say.

Seth-

At the hecklings this evening you mentioned about how the older halls have an atmosphere and community which the newly built halls of residence lack, and how this needs to be changed.

But seeing as Hamilton has been sold, and the university is considering selling more of the older halls in favour of building new halls near DRA/Meville/New Hall, how do you plan to rectify the situation?

Hamilton was a particularly ideal hall to sell as not only did house relatively few students it was also perfect location and exterior architecture for a hotel or similar establishment.

Other older halls are larger and far less attractive to developers. Aside from rumours on the sinner there has been no signs at all that these are in any danger in the near future. (But if Regs, Atholl or Chattan were in any danger boy would I fight).

Melville is doing fine community wise from what I hear.

DRA is not brilliantly designed for creating a sense of community, however there is plenty the Union can do in terms of how the communal areas are run.

We need to ensure though that the plans for more DRAlike accommodation are at the very least modified. Allowing students to congregate more. Also the accommodation doesn't have to be ensuite, students don't require hotel accommodation, particularly if the Uni is going to charge the earth for it.

Thanks for all your questions. Thanks to everyone who campaigned for me and didn't break any rules.

Also nice to see my thread is still here.
