Hi there! I'm an incoming first year (bejantine)...looking to Spanish and Modern History as a major, though perhaps that will be a bit too consuming? Here's my facebook

While I agree that first years should not be called "freshies", freshers is an appropriate title. When have you ever heard anyone called the week before classes start "pre-sesh". No. It is freshers' week. That might not be it's official name, but that's what almost everyone calls it whether that person is British or American or of any other nationality.

1. "Freshers" may be an appropriate title somewhere. But not at St Andrews where there is already a name for first year students.

2. It was always called "Pre-Sesh Week". Of course, that was before the vogue for needlessly changing the names of things began. Both "Freshers' Week" and "Orientation" suggest that the events are only for incoming students.

Not at all - "Orientation" is for everyone, and sounds a little less lame than "Pre-Sesh". I think it was a University decision to go with "Orientation", but it does encompass everything - returning students still have to find out where their lectures are and stuff

I never said it wasn't. I said the name suggests that it is only for incoming students.

No it doesn't. It sounds much lamer.

There's a group for those of us who are going to St Andrews next year, but waiting for that coveted email address: "I'm going to the University of St Andrews next year" (http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204758498).

I went to good ole St. Andrews a few years ago for study abroad, and was very close to transferring ... but unfortunately I wasn't able to.

I'm thinking of applying to IR for a 2007 fall start. If anyone wants to add me or discuss IR stuff, feel free to send me a message. I'd love to come back.

Hiyas

I'm a 2005 Alumnus who read Ancient History and lived in Sallies. If anyone wants to ask any questions about what Sandies used to be like, what the hall's like, or what to expect in the Classics department (including an explanation as to who REALLY holds that department together), feel free to drop me a line:

Funky flunky munky...
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."
