For Fucks sake someone have some fucking balls.

The reason it is taking so fucking long and looks like shit is because everyone is trying to contribute.

Why not one Person. Goes and meets with each individual and then updates it.

Why not let one person do it. At the moment its just at a standstill because too many cooks are spoiling the broth.

I understand this solution might not be the 'seen' as the thing to do. But then it is not set in stone. The thing can be changed if it is not liked.

Why not also employ someone to do it. Yes, its money but surely this is good money. 1) So the students know what is going on 2) it can have a guide to st-a's that actually means something! 3) It contains pictures from Union events. that people will log on to get.

This is not especially hard stuff to come up with and it makes sense.

But for god's sake get the fuck on with it.

Thanks for your contribution, Christopher.
As you'll have seen from the message I posted previously, we are getting on with it, having a training session this Saturday. We've already got several people signed up for it - perhaps you'd like to help too? - you seem to have a good number of ideas on the go. Just email me on mailto:sadesign@st-and.ac.uk if you'd like to get involved.

Having one person updating the website is not feasible, as there are too many different aspects of the Students' Association for one person to know all about (and have the time to update).

The system used by the union to update the website allows each individual to contribute to their own page, in their own time. The new web-update team will be responsible for ensuring that the pages maintain a regular style, and that all the links are up to date and correct. They'll also be the ones giving our student officers a friendly nudge if their pages aren't being updated, or don't offer enough info.

As I'm responsible for the over seeing of all this (and the design), I'd like to hear why you think the site "looks like shit" - I agree with you that it's not set in stone, and can be changed - perhaps you'd also like to suggest a few alternatives? You say yourself that it's not hard stuff to come up with...

I look forward to receiving your email, and perhaps meeting you on Saturday

Oli, yes you did catch me in cranky mood. But my points are valid. Its been far too long.

I will send you an email with ideas. But unfortunatley this saturday im away with the army.

But I do want to meet with you since i feel it is very important.

Look at these other Uni sites if they feel that this is so important why dont we???

http://www.umu.man.ac.uk/
http://www.guu.co.uk/
http://www.ausa.org.uk/

These websites are not constantly needing updating. They have some drive and clarity.
Perhaps a phone call to them and asking for advice might be not unreasonable to suggest.

Anyway, I look forward to discussing this with you in person.

How does Monday at 12 sound to you?
If that's a suitable time, then I'd like to invite anyone else to attend, to discuss ideas.

The hangover time was definetly needed.

Thanks Oli for taking the time to listen to some of my ideas.

Thanks for coming in - some good advice and suggestions. It was good to get an extra viewpoint on the way the site is (and should be) used.

Any recent progressions?

I'd like to make a contribution - i think the group of links which appear across the top of the page, across the left hand side of the page and in the middle of the page are simply too many.

For ease of navigation I would suggest less buttons in appearence at one time, leading to separate menus with some subsections behind them.

As it is, there is a pointless duplication of links across the LHS and the top. This space could be freed up for a less cluttered appearence. There's a lot of good content there, but it's slightly cluttered and when you maximise the page on a PC, it doesn't ''fill up'' the page, it remains the same size whilst the rest of the page is white.

Just my opinion, but I think the really large font makes everything seem squashed together???

Hope this is of some use.

Nah still very poor, you like the animated bits? Every seen the Mr. X. Simpson’s episode, I preferred Homer’s original site it’s far less busy. Sorry this is going to come across harshly but I feel its justified.

For me anyway the most important thing the site could do is act as an advertising board, a far better one than that outside the Union. It needs to tell you exactly what is going on this week. In an easy to open way. This page is a disgrace:
http://yourunion.net/main/association/events

Playtime is fun? What I'm a 3rd year and have never heard of that
Some random with a big Jar somewhere I've never seen before
Click to previous events and I get orientation 2004 !!

Surely a very simple grid updated EVERY week with what’s on at the union. An RSS feed from the page so I can just hit a live bookmark and see tonight is whatever at the union.
The layout seems poor all over, random images just dropped into the text.

The homepage DOES look good, I like the squares design but the links from it are poor Events (see above)
Food - does very little Student Showcase - NO content really
AU - fine
Accommodation - So it tells us a few email address dig down a bit and its not updated
Raisin Monday - Great but surely by now that could be RAG week ?
Soc - 4 Months out of date
STAR that’s current off-air and wont be back for a while

There in places is a frame for too much info so makes finding the right bit difficult and often when you do find what you need returns page cant be found error.

I worked building and maintaining websites as a summer job. If I dared turn in with a site like that I would be embarrassed. I am now embarrassed by this one as representing my Union.
