Hi Krissy. What's your e-mail address - I'd be quite interested in finding a DJ for a private party.

Yeh same here, how long are you in St. Andrews for?

Hi, if you or anyone else wants to contact me my email address is vegaluna@prodigy.net. My website is http://www.geocities.com/sounddjentertainment if that helps any more. :) Oh yeah - I'll be in St. Andrews from this Friday (the 27th of January) till the first or 2nd week of June 2006.

Ok I might have to admit that I went slightly overboard in my criticism of the Bop. Had a good night last night and hadnt drunk a thing, but I still think they could do with some variation in the tunes played.

Seconded, but there needs to be incentives (£1 0ff) so that everyone particates and some of us aren't left looking stupid.

My major gripe with the bop would have to be repetitivity. DJ's seem to play the same songs night in night out. Yeh you get some variation, but you'll always hear your combination of, Bon Jovi,Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Killers, Etc. I'd go more often if the songs varied from week to week.

I think the DJ's need to be a bit more adventurous and take more lisence when it comes to picking and choosing their songs. In the event that a paticular chouce doesn't go down so well, its one song in a 5 hour set, the world won't end!!

One should never underestimate the diversity of student tastes. Anyone remeber the Sarah cox set? She played Some recycled pop song and everyone was just like, "What the hell?" She played the Kinks shortly after and brought the house down!

Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

I love the Bop. Probably makes me weird, but I actually prefer a slightly cheesy night out where I can feel vaguely safe in my surroundings rather than a big club. If I want to go clubbing, I do it at home, back in Liverpool.

I think my music taste means that I'm pretty safe for a night out in St A's. If I can't be arsed going Bopping, I go to RockSoc the night before.

It wasn't like I didn't know what I was getting before I came here.

If you dont like the music then why dont you give DJing a shot? The fact is that BOP DJs have a very tough time deciding what to play, if you take a risk and the crowd dont like it the will probably make posts on the sinner similar to this wonderful one. But if they get it right nothing is said at all.

The fact of the matter is that the BOP has a party atmosphere that is maintained by quality music which is unfortunately limited at times. Unless you go into specialisation etc then it is quite hard to find very good, unique songs that not very many know and will be good for a BOP.

So in conclusion if you dont like the music or find it repetative they try doing 5 hours of good, well mixed music twice a week and tell me how often you have to use similar music m'kay?

I went to the bop for the first time in ages on Friday night. What on earth has happened? Like many other forum users have stated, I feel that the bop wouldn't be the bop without cheesy tunes. There was a complete absence of cheesy tunes - in favour of what the DJ presumably thought was dance music since he was doing a good impression of a would be London DJ. The bop is not for trance music unless otherwise advertised (which surely is the way to go - other places advertise the music theme of their events and then no-one is disappointed).

Also (and this probably shows how long it is since I've been bopping), what's all this about paying to request via text? Surely this just promotes the playing of crappy music encouraging people to text.

I was all ready for a cheesy night out and was sorely disappointed.

I feel old after reading all this and with arather strong sense of deja vu.... Sadly its quiet at work and was trying to find out if the dear old Bruce was still at the Union?

I was VP Services in 93-94 which in those days included Ents... when we had BBC radios Colin Paterson as the Union DJ! Students have been moaning about the Saturday night 'bop' for 25 years... dont change it. Its part of the culture!. It has a rich history of cr*p music and alcohol fuelled couplings...

It's not up to the students or the university whether or not there are clubs in St Andrews. If you haven't noticed there are neither clubs nor fast food establishments. The reason for this is the town council itself. Some of their members would be in favour of allowing this in, however there is a majority ruling that there should be nothing of the sort.

A club in St Andrews would change the atmosphere and appeal of St Andrews, and as such the Council has blocked several attempts to introduce clubbing into St Andrews, by doing things like rejecting otherwise perfectly acceptable plans, and refusing permission. So if you really want to introduce clubbing you are going to open the doors for mcdonalds, burger king, kfc, etc, but if you are determined then you need to petition the council itself

well if you want to totally kill the union, degrade st andrews as a town and also be responsible for the almost certain reduction in tourism as a direct result then be my guest. where would you propose on having this establishment anyway?

also it is not economically viable for a club to be set up in good 'ol st andrews as the population would neither merit or support it considering that something like 33% of the population, and about 80% of the clubbing population leaves over the summer.

if you want to club GO TO DUNDEE!

i hope the bop tonight (Tuesday) silenced some of its critics,

i personally never played any dance throughout the evening, and tried to keep a decent mix of chart and old anthems ( i will survive etc.)

i still had people asking me for R N' B, but sadly i don't have any R N'B in my collection, and neither does the Union.

I was in the union yesterday and saw someone (Olly?) with a bop tshirt "I love the bop!"

Does anyone know if these are for sale or is it just a one off?

Maybe if enough people are interested the union could print loads!
