Re: Postal Strike

Indeed! Here's the earlier article which "Pat Stamp" is responding to: http://www.lrb.co.uk/v31/n18/roy-mayall/diary . I think this side of the dispute needs to be emphasised a lot more than it currently is in the news.

Re: Fife Park 09/10?

The plans were indeed exposed as scandelous crap...but that hasn't stopped them from pushing ahead with them!

Re: On the Rocks

True, there wasn't another imoviefest. We tried organising short film competitions ourselves in the first semesters of my 2nd and 3rd years (I'm now in 4th year). The one last year was called 'KickStart', for films of 5 minutes and under. We did a few filmmaking workshops (which were reasonably well...

Re: On the Rocks

I've been really impressed by everything that I've seen so far. The 'Otters Sing Lullabys' afternoon last saturday was great, with the quad bathed in sunshine and a 20-piece marching-indie band to finish things off! I was impressed by Jerry Springer, I thought it was staged and performed brilliantly...

Where can we find out about Hecklings?

Hey,

Apparently there are hecklings tonight, as well as the following two days. Is there a list, online or otherwise, which tells us the line-up?

Seven myths about the occupation (and one half-truth)

This is from our blog (standrewsunioccupation.wordpress.com): Following various complaints and queries, we decided it was necessary to address a number of points regarding our continuing occupation of Lower & Upper College Halls. Q) Aren’t the occupiers disrupting student classes? A) No lectures...

This Sunday 14th December, Radio 2 DJ (and now our DJ) Sally Rodgers presents a STAR Special 2-hour Christmas edition of 'A Letter from Saint Andrews'. Featuring esteemed poet Don Paterson (OBE, VST, MAX MSP) reading his Forward Prize winning poem 'Love Poem For Natalie 'Tujsa' Beridze' and selecti...

Re: Wanted: One Rector

If 51% of current students want a 'minor bureaucrat' as their Rector (who also happens to be an alumnus, local, well-informed, dedicated and wholly approachable gent), then who are you to sound so disparaging? Bla bla bla back in my day bla bla bla... Well, 51% of 26% of current students wanted him...

Re: Call of Cthulhu

I was there too, really enjoyed it! Possibly the best put-together show I've seen at St Andrews, the multimedia worked very well.

Worth seeing, I'd say!

Ah well, the best candidate didn't get in, but neither did the worst. On balance, I guess it's ok.

Re: Lower Rents Now Campaign

Yeah, we're trying to stir up some press intrest. We've had a letter in the Scotsman, some coverage in the Courier and had an article in the Scottish Social Voice after the protest last May. You can see them all here: http://lowerrentsnow.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=...

Re: Lower Rents Now Campaign

Yeah, we saw that and fired off a counter-response email yesterday. It's not on the internet, but I'll try to summarize it... 1) In response to claims that Fife Park is unfit for use and too expensive to refurbish: We made a request, under Freedom of Information legislation, to see the feasability s...

Lower Rents Now Campaign

Hello, Just a quick message about the Lower Rents Now campaign. We're a student group opposing the University's plans to replace 252 affordable beds in fife park (£55.52 a week) with 777 needlessly expensive luxury beds (estimated at £97-130 per week.) The amount of affordable accommodation in St An...
