Honours entry

Postby Garnet on Sun Jun 10, 2007 1:05 pm

Does everyone receive a letter stating whether they have got into honours or not? Or is it just the people that have a place, also is it the same for each department?

Also I am 20 credits down and I have received confirmation (by email) from one department that they will allow me to take an extra 20 next year. However the other one said it would have to wait until after the exams to make a decision. This is for psychology and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the procedure in psychology goes and how likely they are to let someone in who doesn't have 240 credits, thanks

Certainly, if they aren't going to let you in they send you a letter explaining the options to you.

I DIDN'T get into honours in third year (though that was because I was short of credits) and I didn't find out until I got to advising. I cried. I'm just about to graduate with a 2:1 though, so all's well that ends well :D

What happens if you don't have enough credits for honours? Is it alright if you pass the resits and get the credits then?

Should be, if the modules are not prerequisites for honours entry. Ask the head of your school.

It really would be nice if they sent us some kind of notification as to what degree programme we got into. I'm sure I entered honours, but I want to check and see if I got into the MPhys as opposed to the BSci.

Computer Science have sent letters out to all of us in 2nd year informing us whether we got into honours. I did thankfully, though the best thing is to email the director of teaching for your school as they are quite likely to be involved in these decisions (this was the case in Computer Science, not sure about other schools).

Also not all departments send letters out to applicants for honours entry, I think Computer Science is one of the few who do.

I wrote the unreg post about if we get letters or not.I was worried because I got 18s and so wondered why no letter had come, or if it was a grade error.
I emailed the department and they confirmed my place;so yes, some departments dont send out letters, best to email.

Your record card page also has what degree you're in at the top; that might be a useful indicator.

I think I'll go and e-mail the Physics department now!

I was trailing 20 credits when I entered honours, and I was allowed to pick up a first year module in addition to my honours modules and by the end of first semester I was up to date with my credits.
