no, said Tom, putting up the hooks again, taking out a
large pocket-knife, and slowly opening the largest blade, which he
looked at meditatively as he rubbed his finger along it. Then he
added,

I gave Spouncer a black eye, I know, thats what he got by wanting to
leather me, I wasnt going to go halves because anybody leathered
me.

Oh, how brave you are, Tom.

As Marriott finished these words they reached the house, and Belinda went
to her own room to read Lady Delacours letter. It contained none of her
customary _eloquence du billet_, no sprightly wit, no real, no affected
gaiety; her mind seemed to be exhausted by bodily suffering, and her high
spirit subdued. She expressed the most poignant anguish for having
indulged such unjust suspicions and intemperate passions. She lamented
having forfeited the esteem and affection of the only real friend she had
ever possessed--a friend of whose forbearance, tenderness, and fidelity,
she had received such indisputable proofs.

Continental Citizens' Wives.

What on earth did that mean? It didnt even seem to advertise anything, but it was clearly designed to be eloquent enough to get past my spam filter for some reason...

I get lots of stuff like that which gets past the University's spam filter. However, a job application which I cc'ed to myself was flagged as spam. Interesting.

I'd guess it has something to do with trying to crack a Bayesian filter, but I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to include any sort of ad at all - maybe they were just testing for valid email addresses, to find the ones that wouldn't bounce.
