Hope Street does it again...

Postby Lamond Drive on Tue Mar 21, 2006 12:35 am

Has anyone heard of recent rumours that a huge pile of cocaine was brought out at a recent Hope Street afterparty? When will the reputation of these presumed snobs die down and let everyone else get on with trying to enjoy their university without constant reminders that the provoked St Andrews 'class-war' is alive, and well, and coming to a weekend near you?

As soon as you stop spreading rumours about them, I wager.

I'm on North Street...I can only grind up ProPlus and snort it to look cool. So near but yet so far *sigh*.

Call me old fashioned, but I like to do what my Massachusetts forefathers did.

Get drunk and stop calling my relatives.

I've never seen cocaine in my flat, but if you say that there must be some because of my address, then I guess I must be wrong. I only live there. Not like the fact that I wouldn't do that shit matters. My postcode is all that matters in assessing my personality and drug habits.

I live on South Street, ok Abbey Street, and there are no drugs in my flat, well ok actually there's quite a few but they're legal.

There are two questions here a) What is a drug? This is actually a hard if not impossible thing to define. and b) does it matter/does anybody really care?

Anyway to sleep perchance to dream (I've eaten cheese so should be a fair certainty).

I care!

Well, not enough to define it, but I don't really think it's quite within the definition of drugs alone that we should look to define it. I mean, we can make it a hell of alot easier if we look at it in what you'd think was a more moderately useful way:

Good Drugs
BAD Drugs

I love drugs...

Thank the Lord, in all his wisdom, for giving us drugs, so that we may escape the pain and suffering of reality for short periods of time, and have immense fun by fucking our brains up with chemicals.

BUMPED!

I was at a party at an unspecified address in Hope Street recently, and, in order to take the piss out of some people there who would assume (and have scorned the fact) that such things happen on said street, a huge pile of GLUTEN-FREE FLOUR was produced on a mirror... amazingly, i would assume due to drunkeness, everybody bar those in the know tore in, and the placebo effect reigned. It was quite amusing to watch from a sober point of view, and as a non-Hope Street resident i still found it was a harmless and yet fucking funny way to make a point.
I can't speak for everyone, but i think it's a bit rough to assume that everyone living in a certain area will behave a certain way...although, i suppose we've built empires on lesser assumptions...

Amen

If the good Lord didn't want us to have drugs he wouldn't have invented them. Speaking of which, I could really use some Adderall or Ritalin.

Were you high when you wrote this? Class wars beginning on account of people taking coke? What the fuck is the matter with you? Who gives a shit who took coke or where they took it or if they took it?

The way I heard the story, the real joke is on the person who consumed it- it was actually gluten-free flour.

Hmm i personally care if people take coke (unless its in a house away from me) because it can take perfectly nice people and turn them into arseholes. And, with people who are already arseholes it can make them even bigger arseholes.

So yeah - no probs if they do it and I don't meet them out one night but otherwise they had better make sure they are not an arsehole to me.

You'd get the impression i disn't like arseholes :P

This is about the most nonsensical thing I have ever heard. Do you feel as if some rich guy is putting you down because a friend of a friend told you that he (or she) was snorting coke at a party? Are you offended that he (or she) can afford coke and you can't? Are you of the mentality that if you can't get your hands on any cocaine nobody should? Either you have a warped view of the wold or you are trying to enflame class disparities where they did not exist before.

I assume this all refers to that article The Saint ran last October about drug abuse in this uni? I'm sure some people do use cocaine. It doesn't bother me all that much. Ok so it doesn't look awesome for the university (Hmm... students experimenting with controlled substances. Shock-Horror!) but Its probably not exclusively confined to hope street.

I'd really hate to be the poor sod who has to phone up his dad and get bailed out of jail because he spent his allowance on cocaine!

[hr]

Don't mention the Nazi's!
Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

I don't see what the big fuss is with cocaine anyway.

It costs far too much, and gives you a shit high compared to loads of other drugs out there. I'd rather go out and get pissed than take cocaine.
