From Douglas Adams and John Lloyd's book The Meaning of Liff, a word oddly apposite for so many people.

AINDERBY QUERNHOW (n.)
One who continually bemoans the 'loss' of the word 'gay' to the English language, even though they had never used the word in any context at all until they started complaining that they couldn't use it any more.

I must agree. It almost makes me sick. Can't they keep this sort of thing private. Also why do they feel the need to capitalise the word gay. First of all it is a disgrace to the English language that they have re-defined it and now they must put it in capital letters to make their point.

As we're no longer recognising the fact that words can change their meaning over time, I think I can safely say that the above quoted statement is very nice.

maybe there should be some kind og [sarcasm] [\sarcasm] tags for this purpose...

Afterall in St Andrews we all openly embrace each other's sexuality, race, nationality, background, class and interests...one big happy family thats us!

On a serious note, I think it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that the bop is not just or L, G, B's & T's but for EVERYONE...come and have a good time!

Love xxx

Also a town in North Yorkshire, just off the A1. Nothing much going for it, however it's quite near Pickering - which has an excellent pub called the Nag's Head that I would thoroughly reccomend for lunches and dinners.

Yes, dear. All the words in The Meaning of Liff are towns.

From the Preface to the First Edition...

In life, there are many hundreds of common experiences, feelings, situations and even objects which we all know and recognize, but for which no words exist.
On the other hand, the world is littered with thousands of spare words which spend their time doing nothing but loafing about on signposts pointing at places.
Our job, as we see it, is to get these words down off the signposts and into the mouths of babes and sucklings and so on, where they can start earning their keep in everyday conversation and make a more positive contribution to society.

Am actually going to go - Time to be sociable again. I have lived on the sinner for too long. And well as this it the closest St Andrews is going to come to having a gay bar (yes I know it is open for everyone) I feel like I should take advantage of it.

I was not referring to the acronym. Anyway it was just a joke, calm down dear. No need to be one of those P.C. liberals.

There is a little bit of a difference between being a PC liberal and a gay person...

And you may have not been refering to the acronym in your post, but that is *why* it is capitalised - there is a big difference between a "gay" night and a "G-A-Y / G.A.Y" night.

Funky flunky munky...
So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

To be fair if we're following strict definitions you wouldn't get a gay conserveative, unless they were self hating like Jewish Nazis, or a Black guy in the KKK (Obligitory Dave Chapelle reference).

And um yeah when it's a G.A.Y. bop in association with LBGT then it's obviously drawing on the connotations of gay. Don't be naive/stupid/ignoring the obvious to make a point.
