I agree with munchingfoo. If I buy a pint just before the bar closes, it's not unreasonable to ask for 15 minutes to drink it.

I tried thinking of an innovative witty remark, but could only come up with this...
Cake, and fine wine.

Just because it won't make much of a difference doesn't mean you can't complain.

Then why form your complaint as a request for change?

6) Please don't pay your entire order with 5p's and 2p's. Again, it slows down service for you and everyone else.

I'm not sure I've ever done that, but I do like to give exact change if I have it. It may take me a little longer to get it out of my wallet, but it does save the barman having to get me change, and I can get away from the bar (and out of the queue) as soon as I've paid.

Thats not true. The bar has to stay open fifteen minutes after the bar shuts. The reason being, if I buy a drink I need time to finish it. If a bar wishes to finish 5 mins before the license says they must also close the bar 5 mins early. It is you who does not understand.

It is customery to give 15mins drinking up time (and I'd be pissed off if I didn't have reasonable time to finish my drink)- but at the end of the day, the management can ask anyone to leave at anytime.

Yes they can but it's a different law and most places wouldn't do it because it's fucking stupid to piss off your customers.

It is not customery, stop using that fucking word. It is the law. Check the lisence.

And there we have it. The end of the discussion.

-- The Law states that 15 minutes must be given after the bar stopped serving (at the end of the licence).
The pub/bar must then give their customers 15 minutes in which to finish their drinks and vacate the premises.

-- The management can also ask any of their patrons to leave at any time, for any reason (though this does not necessarily aid business).

-- Some customers are pissed off.

-- Some bar staff are pissed off.

-- It is better to be pissed off than pissed on.

-- Licence is a noun, license is a verb (if in doubt, consider advice/advise).

-- British customs are often different from English or Scottish Law.

-- Customery is not a word.

-- Customary is.

If someone is being disruptive then, of course, the landlord has the right to take action and ask them to leave. However, members of the barstaff have stated that is policy to not allow people the statutory drinking up time simply so they can close up earlier. There is no getting around the fact that such a policy is illegal.

I'm afraid your wrong, a pub can shut up shop any time it damn well pleases before the maximum time its license says.

Sorry guys, but I spoke to 2 sergents from 2 different areas of fife constabulary yesterday and they both said that although it is "highly unreasonable" it is not illegal!

And that is good enough for me!

But hey its not just the bar staff! in fact id say the bar staff have it easy compared to us glass collecters.. :P ok so here are some little tips of my own:

1: if u see us pathetically attempting to blance 60 glasses at once please try and get out the way... if we drop them all then ull have nothing to drink out of

2: in our language "excuse me" means "get the fuck out of my fucking way u fucking arrogant bastard" and if u dont we'll set sam on you ;)

3: um.. oh yeh... glasses are NOT ashtrays... we DO have ashtrays .. u just have to get off ur lazy ass to get one.

4: if you find ur half finished drink gone... it wasnt us it was the evil drink stealing monkey that lives in the slop buckets

and for those people who said "its ur job u get paid either take the shit or quit"... feck off.. even if i didnt work in a bar or such like id not give people who did half the shit that some ppl do... theres no point in it...

:P

i work in the service industry, and i that no matter how rude your customer is, as staff you MUST extend them every courtesy... thats how you make money. your life may be a bit more hassled if you get home 10minutes later, but YOU ARE PAID! your shift may be a bit more stressed if someone pays in coppers, but MONEY IS MONEY!

yes, it is wrong for punters to treat you like crap, but understand it is your PAID JOB to put up with them, as long as they are doing nothing illegal. thats THE POINT of service industry.

Just because you CAN act like an asshole, doesn't mean you should, I was just asking people to rethink their actions a little.

I always try and be nice to people performing services for me, as an ex-victim of the licenced trade I know that I'll get treated better if I'm not a jackass.

Id rather trust the law as set by the courts and parliament than two sargeants from fife.
