Exam timetable

Postby Guest on Sun Apr 30, 2006 11:56 am

Does anyone know what's going on with the exam timetable? The provisional one is still up and yet it says it was meant to be changed in week 10, which I'm pretty sure is almost over.

I'm pretty sure they can't confirm it becuase of the strike, so its going to stay provisional. This may be wrong.

Our two geoscience exams were put slap bang next to each other; is this to say that our complaints are just going to be ignored because of the strike?

try being a physicist. they do that to us every year. I don't think I've had a year when I didn't have at least 2 exams in a row. usually 3.

Been chatting to our dear Geoscience department and despite complaints about the exams being lodged three weeks ago, they've heard nothing back due to all the strike mess.

On a positive note, if you have complained, the lecturers I spoke to said they didn't think there would be a problem...

...followed by the caveat from one that "I sat 7 exams in 6 days in my finals, so you'll cope..." Urgh.

How the hell do the timetablers come up with such tripe? They MUST use a computer!

No i assure you that you aren't the only one. I have just checked my "provisional" timetable again, only to find that 3/4 of my exams have changed dates, one of which by a week. It has worked out well in some respects, giving me a week to revise for my final exam, however if this changed date again, bringing it back to where it was originally (or even before then), then i could be in some trouble.

Why does this fucking university always have problems with exam administration?

This was brought up in the SRC meeting....for now it's confirmed and provided that the local AUT EGM goes our way or that all exam papers are submitted on Monday then it'll stay that way.

Students are going to be notified if there is a change. Given that the majority of students are not affected by the strikes it makes sense to confirm it. And then contingency plans can be put in place if they are necessary.

What I don't understand is that, given the VAST majority of exams had been set weeks ago, why they couldn't confirm *most* of the exams several weeks ago (or at least in week 10 when they said they would). Do the University really need to screw up everyone's plans for late May for the few affected by the strike?

Where I was an undergraduate, I knew exactly when my exams were going to be MONTHS before they happened. Why is St Andrews incapable of doing this?
