Hello,

I'm looking for a music teacher/ vocalist/ voice coach, whatever you would like to call yourself!

Student or not, singer or otherwise, I would like to pay you actual money to teach me to sing. If you are interested, experienced, organised and able to give 1 to 2 hrs a week, please email welshbecci@yahoo.co.uk

Rates of payment are negiotiable but I would probably pay around £5-7 an hour.

Thank you for looking at this post!

Music lessons generally cost £20 an hour - that might even have gone up. Musicians unions generally strongly advise/insist their members ask this kind of price. I understand that you'll be looking for a fellow student etc. to teach you, so you're not expecting to pay that, but honestly, I'd be very surprised if anyone at all with enough knowledge would offer to teach you for £5, or even £7. As a musician myself (not in vocal field, no help to you), given that it's a very specialised skill, takes years to develop and hours of practice, there's no way I'd use it for work for the same kind of wages -minimum wage, in fact- I'd get for an unskilled, untrained job. Of course, do as you feel is appropriate, but my feeling is offering £10 an hour would be more appropriate, fairer and more successful. Alternatively, I could be wrong, and someone more than happy with your suggestion. Hope you find someone.

It really would also depend on what sort of music you wish to learn to sing - are you interested in operatic, choral, popular... what? and are you male or female? Officially, if you have completed grade 8 Associated Board, then you are considered technically able to teach, however, even though I did it years ago, I don't think I could teach anyone very much! The music centre currently charges something like £14 per half hour, the reason I no longer take lessons.
I'd suggest you start with the St Andrews chorus or join the G and S unauditioned chorus next year, find out if you have an aptitude.
