Skool Daze poster

Postby Anon. on Fri May 21, 2004 2:15 pm

I just went onto the Union's website, and saw that the freckles-and-lollipop poster has been replaced by some frightful Japanese-esque cartoon effort.

What the deuce is going on there? And why is it impossible to escape from Japanese cartoons? They're taking over the world.

We are not amused.

It isn't the best manga drawing I've seen in my life, but it's a hell of a lot classier than previous School Days posters.

What's wrong with a manga-style poster anyway?

I thought she was pretty hot - although to be fair, given "skool daze" it should probably have been a panty shot... and no offence to the artist/poster maker but really if you want to make it look proffesional, get a better picture to put on it.

Let me get a good demonstration... damn, panty shots are harder to find that I had initially anticipated. Just imagine them damn you!

Hot? It's a cartoon, for goodness' sake! And the only cartoon that can legitimately be called "hot" is Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast :P (though the yellow dress didn't suit her at all).

But my objection to a manga-style poster is that mangae (or whatever the plural is) are rather too ubiquitous nowadays. The poster just smacks rather of ovinely following along with the latest fad. As well as appearing just a tad computer-geek-ish.

Japanese culture has become rather trendy, hasn't it? Still, I don't think there's anything much wrong with the poster.

And I don't think describing a cartoon as "hot" is any worse than describing anyone in real life though equally unattainable as the same.

Cartoons can be more hot than real people because the artist can excentuate the most seductive features(open to opinion) and hide the less seductive ones.

What pissed me off about the poster was the fact that it promotes "School Days" not "School Daze" - why bother changing the name of the night? "School Days" just doesn't work as well...my bet's on someone retard making a basic spelling mistake.

What about Jessica Rabbit (to name but one)?

Cartoons can definitely be hot. Personally, I'm not a fan of anime and all that stuff, but to illustrate the attractiveness point, I point you to Exhibits A and B.

Exhibit A: Thomas from the Disney film Pocahontas.

Exhibit B: Dimitri from Anastasia.

Am I wrong? I think not. :D

It's far more worrying when people call cars/PCs (and when people, I mean that about 99% of the time it's guys) sexy.

He didn't say that, he said that they were everywhere and taking over. A small exaggeration perhaps but it is rather boring to see the same kind of art over and over and over again.

And all the more wonderful because it isn't real. Oh wait...that would make it just weird to think of as "hot".

Besides not the issue as has been said, manga is boring, certainly when it is plastered everywhere.

There is a huge difference between thinking of a cartoon as pretty and thinking of one as hot. The former means you are appreciating the talent and art of the person who drew the picture/character. The latter may also mean that but it also means you find it sexually exciting and wish to masturbate over it. In general society one of those options is seen as being fine. The latter one, not so much.

Having met people who think along the latter lines, my opinion that they are "weird" has been completely reinforced. But of course nothing can be said at all that is negative for them you will be "closed-minded" and will be insulted by people who are obviously so open-minded in their insults.

Fancying cartoon squirrels is not normal human behaviour for example. And whether you think of someone who does as werid or not hardly matters - point is people should be able to say "don't be daft, it's a cartoon" without a multitude of posts telling them they are wrong. To the person they are right. Easy peasy.

I still think the new poster is a definate improvement on the hound from previous ads.
However, I think I recall there being an even better one in my first year with a girl that was both 3D and attractive, the best of both worlds.
