Boob Jobs

Postby puzzled on Thu Jul 22, 2004 2:35 pm

Was reading an article in the mirror (I'm bored so I read all online newspapers atm, heh) which is about woman who got boob jobs to look how they wanted for their wedding days.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sexandslimming/ tm_objectid=14408859%26method=full%26siteid=50143%26headline= we%2dhad%2dour%2dboobs%2daltared%2d-name_page.html

I was just wondering if there are any sinners who are particularly for or against boob jobs or any who are planning on getting them done later in life?

I'm not too sure how I feel about the whole thing, I don't like the idea of having foreign objects in my body that are not necessary, and certainly at the moment I have no need for one. How I would feel though if my bust went down more than a couple of sizes after having kids though might be a whole different story. I like being curvy and don't think I would cope very well losing that - curves and self confidence seem to be very closely tied together and even that fact makes me confused.

I was reading somewhere else about three "ugly" sisters who went on a tv prog to transform themselves with surgery costing £50,000 each.

Would anyone here go under the knife for cosmetic reasons? Any men that would?

I say you are who you are, and unless it can professionally proven that you have a medical condition that requires cosmetic surgery then I don't approve. I recently had an operation on my nose. I was dead against any form of plastic surgery, and the operation was required due to a head trauma incident when i was 5 years old - fracturing my skull and leaving me blind in hospital for a month.

Physically my nose has changed, but only in that a lump has been removed from the bridge, the rest of the operation concentrated on improving my breathing inside.

For men, I don't see it as important nore essential. For women I dont feel I can comment as I do understand that women can suffer from dangerously low levels of self esteem from the size of their breasts etc.

Gah, that link makes the page a mile wide :O

Anyhow... I think that it's perfectly acceptable for people to engage in any body alterations they should see fit to deign desirable.

One might argue with some degree of success that it's down to the perpetual perverasion of perfection that the media has effected but the result is that people want to look better and cosmetic surgery provides them with that.

While it might be the quick fix... that's pretty much what our society is about at the moment.

I guess cosmetic surgery is really one of those things which our next generation will learn from, only once we have lived out our lives will we know whether cosmetic surgery is the answer...

about the three ugly sisters who had plastic surgery....

over here in the US (where i am for the summer) there is a reality show called "extreme make-over" where they take people who have really low self confidence and feel ugly and seclude them from their friends and family for three months while the ugly ones have lotsa cosmetic surgeries (breast stuff, liposuction, teeth veneers, etc) and go on diets and exercise for hours every day. then after the three months there is a party and the new, prettier person is unveiled to everyone. last year there was a single father who went on the show (i think his wife had died..maybe not) but his daughter was 6 or something and at his unveiling his daughter didn't know who he was and started crying hysterically and grasping for her grandmother. how traumatic for that kid! dad goes away for three months and literally comes back a new man.

apparantly last year there was also a reality show called "the swan" where ugly people did the extreme make-over thing and at the end there was a beauty pagent to see who became the prettiest.

there are lots of other cosmetic surgery shows on as well over here...pretty soon no one is gonna have the same face or body!!

I did, (as embarrassingly quite a few people at a hallowe'en party were told :s)
I think if people feel better about themselves when they have it done then its a good thing, its their body anyways :)

There was one show where people were tranformed to look like famous people wasn't there? And two twin brothers ended up looking nothing like Brad Pitt.

One woman wanted to be Kate Winslet though Ms Winslet herself said she found that so upsetting - that someone would want to be an air brushed picture from a magazine than no one in real life really looks like :/

What kind of people go on a reality-make-over show?
MORONS!
Not all aesthetically deficient people (I'm being PC unlike you fascists) are moronic enough to go and do something like that. Some have the sense to be content and realise "hey they just want to exploit me to get ratings, fuck them".
I bet even some beautifal people do it because they possess Severe Moron Symdrome (SMS) as well

I think that the vast majority of women naturally have breasts that are the right size for them. Having a boob job to pump them up to some supposed ideal just makes them look out of proportion to the rest of the body (sometimes freakishly so), and is, in my opinion, a Bad Idea.

I hope this doesn't post twice.

Question for Haunted (i am going off the point slightly):

Why are un-politically-correct people now fascists?

I don't really like the idea that you can change your own body artifically... it has its uses, but I'm not sure about it being used for purely cosmetic purposes. Where do we draw the line? You can't change everything, otherwise you would turn in to Michael Jackson.

Surely this would just be a new cultural and institutional form of natural selection.

I think the boob jobs worked quite well for the women in those images, although they had nice bodies before.

The only problem i see with boob jobs is gaining or losing weight, as naturally breasts increase and decrease.

whether it looks good or bad (like Leslie ash's trout pout) it's the person's choice as long as they are prepared to face the consequences then they should do it.

There's no such thing as "ugly" anyway.

It goes off the point a bit but is someone non-politically-correct now a fascist?

If so, why?

No such thing as ugly? Perhaps in an absolute sense... but even then, if one establishes parameters to define beauty then by definition there must be ugliness. It may not be an objective value but just because something is subjective - doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

And I rather agree with Kibet - it's a persons choice to make, goodness knows that we're told what to do enough these days, so let people have the freedom they desire. If it makes them happy, who are they hurting?
