Hi,

I am trying to password protect a directory in my wired webspace using a .htaccess file. I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience in this or if it is at all possible.

Thanks.

This should be possible I think... Tell us what you're doing and where it doesn't seem to be working.

This is probably the best place to look for reference to .htaccess files, even though it refers to Apache 1.3:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/htaccess.html

This may also be useful:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/auth.html#access

OK, it's a while since I used the apache documentation: I've discovered version 2.0 has a tutorial on this. You'll find it here:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/

I've got a similar problem. I follow the instructions to the letter, no matter where my .htaccess file goes it always throws a HTTP 500 error. Same problem no matter where the passwords file goes (Created with htpasswd)

What could be causing that?
